Is it smithy or JT ???

Dont know if anyone else has noticed the apparent shift in the players attitude regarding both Smithy and JT in recent weeks.

When Smithy was there and when he 'left' we had players saying that there was no problems at training and Smithy was the best etc etc...
Now JT has been with the side for a few weeks, we are reading that suddenly JT has bought the 'fun' back into the club.

Even Dean Widders who I thought was basically a Smithy love child has now come out and credited JT as the person who has saved his career.

Nothing like heaping praise on the current boss and conversely I wonder if Smithy, when reading all this, may feel a little uneasy ?

I really wish JT was next years coach! :x Yes that's right, Im not a Hagan fan and definitely wasn't a Brian Smith fan. You can see the difference JT has brought to the team in 2 games. Last week Parra's second half was poor, but they looked a completely different club in the first half. JT will bring good things for 2006....let's just hope he doesn't try and pinch some players before going to Souths.

I think most people noticed it and it's no coincidence either.

Did you hear that BS sent Cayless and others 12 text messages on the day of a game, just beforfe he gave up and took his bat and ball away.
Think we are hearing sighs of relief and hopefully a bit more fun.
It looks like he just wore them down thgis year, good luck Knights

Smith was a good coach but no the last few months wouldn't have been much fun. Smith only had to look the wrong way & the club would cop it. I think there is a bit of relief becase there is no longer anyone to blame as the sole cause of our woes & the team has been reprieved a fresh start.

What will be made of the rest of the season is unsure but there is no Brian to blame now. The team can now be forgiven a few losses due to circumstance & the pressure is now off somewhat. I think JT will be an awesome coach & also wish he were here as head coach next year. But I think the game has become fun again more so because with Smith, went a lot of pressure that our boys so far this year failed to live up to. JT has no baggage & no benchmark of expected results.

I reckon this thread is probably about a month premature. Yeah we won on the weekend but were we really that much better than we had been? The 2nd half to me would suggest not yet. As for the rest of the season, we can only improve on results & therefore will. Smith wasn't the sole reason for the ladder standing this year.

Losing is never fun. Winning is fun & it's been a while so of course JT bought back the fun. I'm sure last year under Brian was pretty fun to!

JT is doing a great job so far if the guys really feel they are having more fun.

I think also its easier to have fun when you are playing from a 2-9 start to the year and are in a way almost counted out of the finals - its like a got little to lose attitude, may as well have more fun .... Smithy was probably a bit desperate to "make" things happen in his last season here - probably ended up with pressure on everyone = no fun.

Brian Smith is soley to blame, he prepared them wrong, he didn't play his best players in atleast one of the trials and left us when the pressure got too much. In his leaving comments he basically admitted to not being focused, for $400,000 a year, i would be motivated, yes the job has alot of pressure but he was heavily compensated for it!

If he didn't know this year was going to be hard then there is something wrong with him. Giving up was the weakest way out, that did not take guts, he was on a plane on the Thursday and will be over in England for 3 months, leaving was the easiest thing to do.

Good luck Knights!!

I'm privileged enough to get to see what goes on behind the scenes on game day. The game before the Roosters game was not a happy place to be in and around the sheds. On Sunday the Reggies and injured players lined up to cheer the players on to the field. There was a lot of clapping and a bit of yahooing on the way out of the tunnel and the general feeling was a lot more relaxed then it had been for a while. This was a complete reversal to previous weeks. I think the situation with Smith was the catalyst for much of the negativity.

JT is working hard at getting some fun back amongst the team. He has some work to do but it is happening.

Mate doesn't matter how professionaly your are or how much you are getting paid, when you know that you are not going to be there in the future, you just lose the motivation & drive to perform.

When the players know that the coach will not be there next year, the coach's authority is underminded. The players will not be as attentive as they would have been in the past.

This sad chain of events are the major reason for our downfall this season.
People argue look at knights, panthers, raiders. Except for knights (joey factor), raiders and panthers will finish the season in a similar position as us.

P.S I am sick of people blaming coaches as be all and end all for a team's performances. The players are equally if not more to blame for a team's performances.

with everything I heard and with what unfolded at our club I have no doubt that what Kornster says is 110% correct and some. and no one will ever convince me otherwise, like I said before what has happened since Smiths departure is not a coincidence.

May be I am missing something, but what exactly has happened since smithy left?? We are 1-1 since smithy left, with the same second halves we've been having all year. So what exactly has changed? (the exception of hayne starting instead of peterson)

The players will always support their current coach (they supported smith in the past). Ask them what they think of JT after JT has left for souths.

What is the change in the team's performance since smithy left? Nothing

ok! better still..don't ask the players. read Colonels last post instead.

you can choose to believe what you want to believe but please don't tell us that nothings changed, I found a better lease of life and attitude with the players in the past 2 weeks. and you're probably the only person here who hasn't noticed the same thing.

I don't expect us to make the 8 but I do expect the side to be more competative and happier than what they have been.

It's not about asking the players what they think of JT, it is about asking the players how they feel now that Smith is not there!! I think you will find they are a little happier, god knows with the comments they have come out with about it being more fun now, don't you think something has changed????

It appears to be quite obvious that the regimented style of coaching employed by Smithy was just starting to grind on the players minds this season.

Indeed, it probably was in '02, '03 and '04 as well, but with the injection of new blood into the team last year, we were able to overcome it.

Personally, I think the change couldn't have come soon enough, and as much as Taylor won't be here next year, I still feel more optimism now for the future, than I have since 2001.
