Ricky has recruited some really handy players. It's shaping into a really good squad. This loser mentality he brings must be a concern though: the "we woz robbed last week so it was hard to motivate them" (I'm paraphrasing obviously) line was unbelievable. His constant blaming of the refs for every loss seems to remove accountability for the players' performance. He seems to bring a really negative vibe to the club.

When he coached the Eels it was the same: expect more floggings (he actually said that), refs are against us, our players aren't good enough etc. It's very much a loser mentality and it can't be good for morale. As a fan, as soon as he started saying stuff like that, he lost my confidence from a fan perspective. Wonder how the players felt...

Sticky was a champion player with an unequalled kicking game, but champion players rarely make good coaches. Most of the time coaches with his record have moved on to some other persuit, but winning a comp in his first year seems to have given him a job for life.

The Raiders are on the lower end of the mediocre scale and still look like they are playing in 1994.

When he was coaching the Eels, my blood boiled the day he was interviewed on the Sunday Footy Show before an Eels game that afternoon - Hayne was under an injury cloud and Stuart said he would be resting Hayne so that he would have every opportunity to be fit for Origin.... the merkin cared more about NSW winning than getting his own best team on the park. Eels were paying his wages and he's wrapping players in cotton wool to help NSW win.

He's clearly deluded - I'll bet he thought comments like that actually endeared him to Parra fans.

Do coaches make that much of a difference to either team? Both are pretty rubbish and have been for a while, despite going through about 20 coaches between them. There are bigger problems at both clubs tbh.

BTW how does Dean Pay keep his job? Raiders are Roosters-like in attack and Eels-like in defence. Forget about refs and focus on defence and it is a top 4 side.
