Opinion Is Ricky Stuart the most overrated coach ever?

Our depth is a real genuine concern. With baptiste likely out to next season there is very little nrl quality at hooker if Hodgson was to pick up an injury.

The back up halves didnt look great either

Now obviously we would be f**ked if Hodgson went down anyway. He is our best player but the depth is worrying everywhere. Maybe fullback and wing has a bit of cover and we can cover maybe an injury or two in the forwards.

Anyways cant worry too much about potential injuries but its certainly a genuine issue for us.

Also i said this in the game day forum but some of the forwards looked a bit off the pace with conditioning. That said boyd looked the fittest he has ever looked imo

I hope it is just a one off and not due to lack of conditioning. In one of his latter years at the Roosters, Stuart instructed the rest of the coaching and training staff to concentrate on ball work in the off season and pre-season. This came at the expense of conditioning, and hence all that season our team kept running out of gas and would get belted as a consequence. I hope for your club's sake he learnt from that. If Stuart didn't....

I think he is able to carry a bunch of fatties because he gets so much out of wighton, bj and rapana as extra forwards. They weren't there against the knights so the poorer conditioning was shown up.

Thanks for the report Beejay but it doesn’t really fit the narrative for this thread. For all intensive purposes, Stuart was solely focussed on this trial match for months and fielded our full strength outfit for the entire 80 minutes. It was a must-win game.

……and the Sharks didn’t just lose to an ESL side.
Raiders have lost two games in a row now. 3 of his their last 4.

The signs are worrying. Do well to avoid the spoon.

What if trials don't count for anything? And the raiders are every bit as good this year as they were last?

You're right, im just trying to live on this hope as long as i can. 2-3 more weeks and the season kicks off and we'll be on our way to our first spoon since 1982 :(

Just to be factual about the trial, at the 20th minute mark when every FG'er except Paulo, Sezer and Whitehead were off the park, it was 6-0 to the knights. Lets not pretend they put 30 on our first stringers

Sezer and Whitehead came off at 12-0 a minute or so later.

So what youre saying is your first graders just walk off the field when the opposition score.

My worry about the Raiders is they have gone too big.

Can their massive boppers play big minutes. What is the interchange at now? I assume 8.

Also their depth in the spine positions, but all clubs have those problems.

2 of the 3 left on the field, yes
When our pack on and none of our backline it was 6-0. The knights put a hurting on our Mounties and u20s team

I honestly dont read into trial results at all even if full strength. Raiders will be top 8 at minimum. Likely top 4. Theyre slow starters and that game meant nthing.

Teams tend to put in less effort in matches that mean nothing. Which is why im optimistic about how hard Panthers try in defence through 9s and trials. That defensive effort wasnt present very often last year. We let teams get fast starts quiet often last year.

I reckon that was a factor in the finals last year. They were blowing hard.

Should've been putting them on salads in the off.

Yeah it's a different situation
We know our best 17, it's locked in, everyone knows their role and where they stand. Where as the knights players are out there fighting for a job and respect

I don't think any contender is worried about trial games outside of staying healthy

The panthers are going to be a contender this year, what ever happens in pre season is inconsequential, as long as they keep their stars healthy
