Opinion Is Ricky Stuart the most overrated coach ever?

25-6, thought the Paulo no try was a try :D

I feel truly sorry for Raiders fans. You have done nothing to deserve this f**kwit. He is the worst man manager in the history of rugby league. Makes excuses for them every week, always someone else's fault.

Worst thing is, he's a former great NRL half who has NFI how to coach halves and turn them into consistent players.

Michael Hagan is probably sitting back wondering how Stuart keeps getting employment while he's been out of the league for years.

They both won a premiership their first year after inheriting a ready to win now roster. Stuart is the cockroach who won't stay down though.

I remember the good old days, when we could all have a bit of a laugh in this thread, with Stuart the main provider of hilarity.

Sure, there were some tense moments, when Raiders fans would say with enthusiasm that Stuart is building something, and bitter Sharks, Eels and Roosters fans would mock their hopes and dreams.

But mostly, we could all come here to enjoy a good old laugh at Ricky and his hurtin' press conference shenanigans. Maybe share a texter or two...

Now, it seems, is the winter of our discontent. Raiders fans are sad, and we actually feel sorry for them. We empathise with their pain.

Ricky you genius! He just wants to reunite the fractured NRL clans in to one big family, committed to agreeing that he is over rated.

So subtle. So brilliant. Over rated my arse....

Stuart comes across as that whinging little ‘it’s just not fair’ kid.
Someone needs to point out that if you are in a healthy lead of a game and lose, you generally have yourself to blame.
Get a mirror Ricky.

I mentioned that in the game day thread what is he complaining about? The team was winning 19-6 with less than 10 mins to go and they capitulated and he goes on the press conference complaining about a try that was not given and the obstruction rule give me a break...how many games has Ricky won the same way.

One interesting little stat in today's Daily Terror. Since Stuart became coach of the Canberra Raiders in 2014, the Raiders have been involved in 36 games where the winning margin has been 6 points or less. Canberra have only won 9 out of those 36 games. It is the lowest winning percentage of any side over that period in the NRL by some margin.

Wasn't Ricky also the coach of the Cronulla team that finished high on the ladder (2nd on for and against??) by winning all of the tight ones?

Look... I'm sure you can blame Ricky for a good portion of those losses but when you have blokes as dumb as BJ Leilua in your team, the players have to wear a bit of the blame as well.

Last week, with the game on the line he went for an intercept deep into one of the Knights last sets of six. It could even have been the last tackle.

He was never going to get it. Basically succeeded in handing the Knights another set of six at a crucial stage and they went on to win the game off the back of it.

Rather than learning from that, I saw him go for another intercept deep into the game against the Warriors this week.

It wouldn't matter who was the coach... That guy is just a peanut.

That was his second year at the club, namely 2008 when the Sharks achieved that. However as the following snippet from this article published in 2013 makes out, his career at the Sharks was hardly stellar -

Cronulla Sharks (2007 – 2010)
Games: 91 Wins: 38 Losses: 53 Record: 41.8 per cent

Stuart resurfaced at the Sharks the following year and despite missing the finals that first year although he managed 10 wins, the following year represents one of his great achievements.

The Sharks despite not having the depth or the talent of other clubs managed to finish equal first with Melbourne and Manly with 17 wins. A qualifying final win over Canberra ended in disappointment the following when the Sharks were thrashed by Melbourne.

The 2009 season was a disaster for Stuart who managed only five wins against a backdrop which included the Four Corners Cronulla Sharks sex scandal programme, Reni Maitua testing positive to drugs, CEO Tony Zappia being forced to quit and captain Paul Gallen having to stand down for racial comments. The Sharks finished second last.

The following year, Stuart said he had “lost” the dressing room and resigned.

Yes, but wasn't it Stuart who recruited him? Stuart likes to have total control, including on recruitment matters. Any Roosters fan who watched BJ in our lower grades, and when he made it into first grade for us could have told you that's what he did, and he has not changed in that regard in all the years since.

No doubt to Sticky this is incontrovertible evidence that the Raiders are consistently robbed by the referees.

Get ready for this fool to start offloading players. That's his usual operation - blame the players that are there when he first arrives, then blame the refs and the nrl, then blame the players he signed and then, finally, blame the whole club when he gets sacked.
