I am one of Croker's biggest critics, but I certainly see a lot of defensive improvement in him now. For years, I think it was denial, but now he has genuinely worked hard to improve individually as well as with the people next to him.
Canberra's two biggest challenges will be mental: handling defensive teams that sledge/ wrestle/ slow down the play the ball. It is clear to me that Canberra quickly turns their attention to appealing to the refs, but if they don't get the penalty, they've inadvertently slowed down their play the ball by appealing. They almost need to block it out, and hope for the long-term rewards by having Hodgson at hooker.
The other challenge is the halves. Aidan Sezer is neither a gun nor a scrub. He certainly has his moments where you think he could break out and be a star. At other times, he has shockers. I am not sold on Wighton in the halves, but his best position (centre) is already taken by Croker and Leilua.
