Opinion Is Ricky Stuart the most overrated coach ever?

Credit to the Raiders' defence in the last 15 mins, that fatigue training or whatever must have paid off (quote me if they lose in the last 5 mins of a game again this season though).

Bateman is a freak and is already the leader of the pack.

Nathan Brown must be coming into serious consideration. Horrific win loss ratio, yet he’s an absolute media swan. It’s a good side when you can omit a Kiwis squad member from last year out of your 17.

Life isn't easy when you're an NRL coach. Just ask Ricky.

Brown has always been in the discussion. He had some gun sides at the Dragons and got nothing much.

He will certainly come under pressure this year if Newcastle don't make the top 8. They've looked so flat over the first 3 weeks.

Brown did leave the Dragons in good shape when he left them though and he has already improved Newcastle.

Ricky Stuart is one of the best talent sniffers in the NRL. John Bateman is a gun. So is Josh Hodgson. Canberra is headed for the playoffs in 2019.

I find myself agreeing.

Feel dirty.

Needs more Fijians and maybe a Frenchman.

Out of the box Ricky, I love him.

There could be a Frenchman coming. Theo Fages, who is five eighth for St. Helens, has been approached by at least two unnamed NRL clubs. My bet is that it is Canberra and NZ Warriors.

So either Kearney or Stick dumb enough to take the garlic chugging surrender monkey.

Makes sense now Alby...

The squad in 2009 Bennett coached was significantly different to the ones before that.

If you looked at the team on paper from 2005-2008 vs 2009 you would think the team had a lot less talent. Bennett wasn't simply handed a gun team guys like Soward and Weyman fired under Bennett and Boyd who followed Bennett.

Mark Gasnier and Josh Morris left as well that's two rep quality players. The Dragons routinely lived up to the choker tag while Brown coached.

I think if the Raiders can make the finals, given their run of late, they will brush the monkey off their shoulder and potentially do well thereafter.

One thing I have noticed this season is their resolve and structure is far improved. Teams used to get a roll on against Canberra and its like they knew a loss was incoming.

Now they look to score points rather than protect a lead.

I hope they do well this season, at the expense of Penrith.

The Raiders pack is more mobile now. Less inclined to tire/fade late in games.

I still think they are missing a player or two to seriously contend, but Josh Hodgson is arguably the best player in the world (imho). I think Nathan Brown recommended him to Ricky Stuart, and I bet he somewhat regrets that now.
