In 2014 when stick arrived at the raiders we were in awful shape. I dont know if he will win the club a premiership but since he arrived we have played in 3 preliminary finals. Before stick came to canberra we hadnt made a single one in the nrl era lol

So stick has done a very good job with a team that was a disaster the year he arrived and had been mediocre for much of the nrl era. A few bad years like 17 and 18 (althoufu 18 there were some circumstances) but hes done a good job with the Raiders

I watched the pressers, Sticky as always comes across so defensive, he's worse than Bennet lol Robinson in comparison was spilling his guts out, telling his deepest darkest fears and desires.

Ricky plays a compressed defence at pressers. Those silly journo's have yet to figure out they need to shift gears & hit him fast on the flanks.

Proud Ricky is proud of his boys. The proudest man in the world however, is also angry. But still proud.

Furious Canberra coach Ricky Stuart has labelled the Queensland government‘s refusal to allow his side to fly into the state earlier on game day as “just another punch in the head” ahead of their preliminary final against Melbourne.

The Raiders had requested to arrive in Queensland on Friday hours before the game to allow the team to relax at a hotel before the 7.50pm kick-off.

However, Canberra’s request has been rejected after the club was given less than two hours to fulfil the government‘s biosecurity demands, which the former NSW State of Origin coach said was “typical”.

“That‘s all changed overnight, which has compromised our preparation again,” Stuart said in his pre-match press conference.

“The NRL have been trying to get into communication with the Queensland government for the past three weeks to get this arranged and ticked off.

“Typical of the Queensland government. I don‘t want to talk about it.

“It won‘t affect us, it hasn’t all year. It’s just another punch in the head that we’ve copped in the week leading up to a game.”

The Raiders, like the Warriors and the Storm, have faced logistic and travel obstacles all season to fulfil their playing commitments.

They have been flying in and out to most venues during their 2020 campaign.

Stuart said he wouldn’t let it affect their performance in the preliminary final showdown.

“I can‘t be more pleased with how this whole squad have handled the situation of where we’ve ended up this season,” Stuart said. ”We’ve still got more in us.

“From a Canberra Raiders point of view, no team has had the magnitude of this type of challenge for 12 months.

“It‘s no one’s fault, it’s just the challenge we’ve had because we’re an out-of-town team.

“It‘s been a really difficult season and these guys are tough individuals. That’s why we’re here, because we’re tough.

They haven‘t let it disturb the processes for us to get to the game, they haven’t let it disturb their preparation.

“It hasn‘t been the best preparation, but they’ve been mentally tough enough to get through it and get onto the field.

“I always say that we just need to get onto the sideline in the best possible physical and mental condition. At times that‘s been a real challenge for me as a coach of our team.

“They just keep backing up. There‘s not a game where they are not competing in. That’s what makes me proud as their coach.”

He's done well, not many teams would have got do far with their most influential player (Hodgson) out for most of the year.

The siege mentality is a bit tiresome though.

They've re signed Croker for another 15 seasons when he's a liability in defence.

We'll make the 8 again but we're on the way out of a premiership window.

Fox played the Raiders v Storm game from 2014 earlier and I completely forgot what a sh*t show he was handed. We had to watch about 15 years of awful Raiders teams like that before Stick got to the club. Week 2 of the finals felt like a massive achievement back then. So to build a squad that's made 2 prelims and a GF so far is a pretty decent effort.

Yep transformed one of the jokes of the league into a respectable side. His achilles is stubbornly persisting with silly selections. If he could move past that he would be one of the best coaches in the game.

Well done Raiders. Past 2 seasons you’ve been brilliant value but have just missed that final touch. Hoping you guys can get the job done while your “window” is open.

Excellent last year.

Passable this year- given that his own stubbornness saw our best ball carrier Cotric gasping for possession out on his wrong side out the right- outside two blokes who pass as well as kidney stones.

But I agrre, I think next year we'll come to rue the "good bloke charity" contracts handed out this year to Toots & Rapana. Toots might even end up as long & cruel as Campese's end (for another great clubman/player).

Those re signings have the hallmarks of the cowboys downfall. Staying loyal to blokes like Granville and then within the space of a season they age about 3 years.

Croker at 34 in the centres will be a sight to behold.
