Opinion Is Ricky Stuart the most overrated coach ever?

The old war horse Campo is nearly as bad a player as Braith Anasta.

Sitting Milford for 50 minutes, is he serious????

That was a terrible game that was up for grabs, and Stuarts sits MIlford for 50 minutes.

Its just terrible, terrible coaching.

Had a chuckle at about the 70 min mark when he ran at the line you could hear the crowd cheer .

I honestly wonder if he's taking the piss.

I've supported him way more than I should, but his selections defy belief.

The good news is I don't care anymore and resorted to watching highlights tonight so it was only 3 minutes of my life wasted.

The best thing that Raiders could do would be to get rid of Ricky. It's worked wonders for the Eels and the Blues. Maybe they could arrange for him to have an "accident"?

Or go the other way and just promote him to CEO so he has no direct influence on the team.

Surly they have to get rid of Joel Edwards makes like 30-40 metres a game and his defensive game is over-rated, his absolute crap and not up too NRL standards.

& Ricky is delusional, his got a roster that could easily make the 8 and his come and now there down the bottom and all he says is I'm proud of there effort every bloody press conference..

I'm starting to think it might be worth the initial pain bringing him to the club for that high they seem to get when he leaves.

I was prepared to give him more time until tonight.

He cops a lot of shit on here... most of it brainless dribble without a coherent argument.

But tonight, dropping Milford and Cornish (give the kid a proper go FFS rather than 15 off the bench) for Robinson and maintaining McCrone... well that's totally inexplicable.

I reckon he's lost the plot.

He dropped his best player and probably crushed the confidence of Canberra's next great hope all in one game.

What a nutcase.

You just know Ricky is sitting at home right now, on a rocking chair, sipping a scotch on the rocks, saying "I built this NSW team........."

NSW players are certainly gracious blowing smoke up his arse like this, they could've easily just said "Ricky couldn't get the job done so Daley stepped in and got it done."

NSW PLAYERS say much-derided coach Ricky Stuart deserves as much credit as his successor Laurie Daley for Wednesday's State of Origin breakthrough.

Daley will rightly go down in the history books as the coach who ended Queensland's mighty eight-year reign but, without prompting, Stuart's name was also tossed up for praise in the winning NSW sheds.

Stuart, Daley's former Canberra teammate, was at the helm when the Blues last won a series in 2005.

But despite the sense of optimism which surrounded his return to the role in 2011-12, Stuart was ultimately unsuccessful in breaking Queensland's run.

However, his impact on that Blues team hasn't been forgotten. Although losing back-to-back series in deciding matches under Stuart was agonising, NSW praised the embattled Raiders' mentor for instilling the hard-nosed culture which eventually paid off in Wednesday's 6-4 win.

Star back-rower Greg Bird said Daley had finished a job started by Stuart.

“Loz has been great for us but it's not all Loz,” Bird said. “It's a combination of Ricky Stuart, what he brought and what he started. The squad that started a couple of years ago that's had to lose those couple (of series) ... building what we've created (on Wednesday).”

Stuart is often criticised for his intense approach, but players have always said his methods were ideally suited to the scrutiny, pressure and passion of Origin.

Beau Scott debuted in 2010 for the Blues, but said the self-belief in the NSW camp went to another level the following year under Stuart.

“I've been around for a few years now on the scene. I think Ricky Stuart created the culture we've got here,” he said.

“Laurie has continued this great culture and it showed (on Wednesday) how gritty we were and to hang in there and win it late in the game.” Stuart's Raiders are languishing near the bottom of the NRL table with just four wins, and last year, his Parramatta outfit collected the wooden spoon.

You're either incoherent yourself or a very patient and forgiving person.

If you couldn't see major issues with Stuart coached teams over the past many years - Cronulla, NSW, Parra and now Canberra then you've not been watching the game.

A bit of a difference when the coach increases the win expectations to 2 games in a three game series. Maybe someone involved with the NSWRL could have informed him that his team (and his job) required more than 1 game to be won. You never know what could have happened. But hey, he started a good culture thing.

I reckon Jack Gibson also deserves some credit for NSW's Origin success this year. I mean Jack was the bloke that gave Laurie Daley his first start in Origin back in 1989 and this paved the way for the success Lozza has recently experienced at Origin level.

So if Ricky can pat himself on the back for laying the groundwork for NSW Orgin glory then so can the late Jack Gibson.

Played strong, done fine Jack...oh and you too Ricky lol
