Manly have been near the top since the Fulton days and that was a long time ago. They have had plenty of very good sides come and go during those years but have always managed to be up near the top, so it would be a brave man to predict they about slide down to be with the plodders.

This year will be a blessing as they have clubs willing to take some very hefty contracts off their hands for a few player who best days are well and truly behind them. So they will be cashed up again to do what they do best and that is attract talented players to their club.

I am not a Manly supporter but I do admire how they have been so good for so long and that dosn't happen by good luck!!!!

Chortle, chortle.

All players mentioned as the next to step in are all Manly juniors you fu*king dunce.

So here's the only post in this thread from a Manly fan that talks about the next players to step in-

Yeah myth idiot going back down the bottom roosters after buying what looks like 2 premierships.
Manly will be ok, rebuild is on the cards. Keep brett stewart, matai and watmough are gone.
Jake Trbojevic is one of best young props in game, jamil hopoate will be in first grade next season. Gutherson is good young talent onto wing hiku to centres.
Blair simply has to be better option rhan tafua tall and can catch. Keep lyon, brett stewart and ballin and try and re sign dce, foran.
Tom Trojevic will be long term fullback post stewart speed to burn.

Next to step in from this post-

J. Trbojevic
J. Hopoate
Gutherson
Hiku
Blair
T. Trbojevic

Hiku is a warriors junior, Blair is a Roosters junior that came to you via Parramatta.

So 4/6 doesn't = all. If you look at the number of ex Parra players you've signed in the last 5-10 years it is rather high and a fair portion of your best have been Parra juniors.

Simple fact.

Manly's attempt to hold the team together rather than let go and scout and promote youth is probably going to bite in the next few seasons. Foran and DCE is all they really have in the young and prime department.

I'm still flabbergasted as to the thinking at Souths signing GStewart.

They will probably need to reinvent the way they play a bit but any team with foran and dce will be a force and toovey has done a pretty good job, can't see them struggling for too long if at all.

Been a grand run. The writing is on the wall for next year, but the merkins aren't dead and buried yet.

They can win next weekend.

Manly have been near the top since the Fulton days and that was a long time ago.

They have made the finals 10 years in a row but immediately before that were a sorry mess indeed, missing the finals 6 years straight, this included the Northern Eagles years. 2003 and 2004, the years they took back their Manly label, were the worst, taking some horrendous floggings and coming close to the spoon both years. A 72-12 flogging at Penrith in 2004 was rock bottom. It was the last year to date they would miss the finals.

I think they are near the end of the line and due for a period of mediocrity, and to be honest I think the Rabbitohs and Storm aren't far behind.

Do you think Trbojevic will come into first grade as a prop? I know hes played prop in the lower grades but despite a promising start to his career I feel he may be a bit small to be a first grade prop at this stage. He looks more like a back rower who will grow into a prop with a few more years in the gym.

Hang your head in shame. Souths will dominate the competition for some years to come.

They will hold a strong spine and rebuild the forward pack around them. Next year will probably be rough but after that they will slowly come back towards the winners circle

The storm may struggle once their big 3 retire but they will be strong for a few more seasons to come. Also Craig Bellamy has this wonderful ability to buy players who are mediocre and get every ounce of potential out of them. i.e. Ben Roberts, Adam Woolnough etc. As for Souths, I'm not so sure why anyone would think we're due for a period of mediocrity. We've arguably got one of the more exciting teams coming through with the likes of Dylan Walker, Johnston, Keary, Adam Reynolds is still young, Kyle Turner, Auva'a, the Burgess twins etc. The hardest part is going to be replacing Sam Burgess but while its going to be hard its not impossible.

He is one of the best ball playing forwards in the game and an off field leader who is so influential his leaving has destabilised the whole of Manly

I'm failing to see the negative in signing him?

Absolutely! On his day, when he is fit and firing, he is the best ball playing forward in the game by miles. Also, the other thing you need to take into account is that Michael Maguire is an ex-strength and conditioning coach. He is no idiot and I'll be my life on the fact that he along with the other fitness guys will have him under some special training program that will help manage his injuries better. Its no co-incidence that Souths have barely any players injured since Maguire took over.

Next season will be tough for manly, the likes of tigers, eels, panthers and broncos are emerging from bottom while souths look to be benchmark.
keep the comments coming about parra you souths mong . Parra has done the same will hopoate, darcy lussick and his brother joey and prob choc watmough. We will not be down as long as post mid to late 90s which took us 7 years to rebuild.
We keep foran, cherry evans and stewart release watmough and matai. Bring through gutherson and co we will be ok. I think manly will consider willie mason considering the front row dramas. Simply put i had up front worries early in year when kite, rose and richie faaosso leave and sign no one then problems arise.
I have no doubt we will be out of contenders for 2 seasons max.

I think the Stewart era is over. Glenn was a big part of the premierships but hasn't been the same player for the last couple of years. Brett is still a great player but has lost a bit of pace and isn't the threat he once was. The club has ruffled a few feathers by not resigning Glenn, but we obviously needed to bring in some younger players. I think this has been a big factor in the club struggling towards the end of the year and I don't think the players are as tight as they once were.

I'm really not concerned about the forwards or halves, they will come into their own in the next couple of years. What we are missing is strike in the outside backs, whether the young players we have fill that gap time will tell but Gutherson and Hiku look like top quality players.

10 finals in a row. 2 premierships. That's a bloody good era. They might have a year or two in the bottom half of the ladder but they'll never be hopeless if they continue to build around Foran and DCE.

I don't think their era ever began, because what use is the prestige of Premierships when literally EVERYONE hates you.

If it was up to me I would release Watmough, Matai and Stewart and invest in the next generation of young talent coming through. With the cleared up cap space I would focus on securing Foran and DCE and bolstering the forward pack with some skill full hardworking youngsters and some hard nosed veterans.

Obviously there would be a few lean years with the transition but the strength of culture at the club shouldn't see them outside of the 8 for too many years.

When has winning premierships ever been about caring if other fans liked you? Stupid comment.
