Is Tim Smith Under Pressure ?

you may need to get your memory checked.

we won 9 of our last 11 regular season games. we lost the last two due in main part to having seven front rowers out through injury or suspension. at that point hindy and the chad were playing front row roles with piggy making a cameo as well. we played the storm in round 1 of the finals and lost narrowly (12-6) to them. at stages in that final we looked like we could beat them as well.

i don't think tim can shoulder the blame for the end of last season as there were circumstances beyond his control.

he isn't really in poor form this year either. yes he has taken some poor options this year and last week was not that flash for much of the game but last week our whole side was ordinary and this year tim is statistically up there with the best halves in the comp. i think some people just seem to notice the negative parts of his play more than the positive.

That's because the negative parts of his game is so damning.

Timmy was awful last week, but i am confident he can turn it around and have a big one tommorrow.

Listen when was the last time you heard people talk about the lack of creativity in Lockyer's game, or for that matter Prince's, Cooper's or Thurston's? Exactly stop scratching your head...

That's my point almost every other week people keep drudging out excuses as to why he had a quiet game or why he did or didn't do x, y or z, and that next week will be different.

Yes any moron can tell you that next week will be different, by the obvious fact that it's an all-together different week. But what we all want to see though is a halfback who DOESN'T play so DIFFERENT every week, as to be non-existent some weeks, woeful the next and yet brilliant in others. Consistency is the key to success.

No team can challenge for a premiership when the one who is meant to steer you around is so inconsistent. Just like a sailing ship would find it very hard to come to shore with a rudder that is damaged and doesn’t respond each time the captain turns the wheel. Only blind luck or a favourable wind would get you home.

Barring good luck, maybe we should all put our lungs together and blow Timmy to success.

Oh yeah a lot of you here already do. :)

and yet the positive can be so impressive. there aren't too many players that have had two of the best sevens ever in andrew johns and peter sterling talk about his amazing ability and their extraordinary potential like tim has.

while tim isn't playing as well as he did in his rookie year he is hardly the main cause of our bad play when it happens. he is the same as any other half (bar andrew johns). he needs his forwards giving him room to move before he can be expected do something awesome. really, how many players have reached those levels.

he's worked on his running game, which i'm sure you can see has improved. the only parts of his game i would be critical of are that he uses the inside ball too much some games and that some games he tries to do something out of the ordinary almost every touch instead of working the set.

I thought he played fairly well today, but him and Finch still take far to many wrong option's for mine.

Tim Smith is a live wire, no other player in the side is close to him, creatively. Unfortunately with all creative players there are going to be errors. Without timmy i think we would be a very boring footy team to watch.

Like any halfback, Tim Smith goes well when the forwards are going well.

He is the best we have and we should stick with him.

Yeah no one doubts his potential, but even Sterling has at times, not to mention other commentators, referred nonplussingly to his limited imagination and poor creativity close to the line. Lack of options if you will.

You’re kidding!!! Our forwards are usually equal or more dominate then their opposing forwards. Take today’s game as a perfect example. However, if you listened to the commentary they were amazed and surprised that Souths were still in it with 5 mins to go, seeing that Parra had dominated in field position and possession so convincingly.

But we could not put them away...again. So if there is nothing wrong with our forward domination, and our outside backs are some of the biggest and classiest around, then where do you think the problem lies?

It wouldn't have anything to do with the 6 & 7 would it?

Your kidding? If we had a real deal playmaker, we would be as good as Melbourne, no if's, buts or maybe's.

I'd hardly call Cooper Cronk...solid as he is, a playmaker.

Tim is the best halfback on the roster, plain and simple.

deal with it

i think tim puts himself under pressure by trying too hard and always going for the miracle try rather than building pressure and waiting for the right moment

The problem is that by keeping Timmy there, we don't look for other options, and the yoyo style of play just drags out. Especially when he has his odd great game, which everyone blows over and the cycle continues.

Well explain this one mate.

HOW DO OTHER TEAMS HAVE PLAYMAKERS AND QUALITY TEAM MATES WHO SUPPORT THEM, THAT GO ON TO WIN THE TITLE?

Cooper Cronk should have been the most overated player, he plays for the best current coach and behind the most well drilled team, Thurston, Prince, Marhsall would all be god's in that team!!!

Cronk gets wraps because 9 and the media talk him up. He is solid and does the job he needs to, hand the ball to Inglis, Slater, not to mention that Cam Smith is the best player in the game at the moment......Cronk gets more credit than he deserves!!!!

We could only hope to find someone of his calibre within the next couple of years, before Cayless & Hindmarsh move on.
