Again I point you to the facts!

GC Titans are one of the best supported teams in the NRL, they have seemingly decent corporate sponsors, they play in one of the best RL stadiums in the comp. Take out the cofe fiasco and they would be ticking most boxes as a succesful expansion club I would have thought. As for not many caring, again their crowds would suggest otherwise and don't tell the members of The Legion that!

Crowd figures for 2011 were 15.428 which ranked them 7th in the NRL for the year. This was down 13.7 percent on 2010.

In 2010 they drew an average of 17,877. Which placed them 5th in the NRL. This was down 7.1 percent on 2009.

In 2009 they averaged 18,940. Which placed them 3rd. That was down 12.5 percent on 2008.

In 2008 they averaged 21,618. Which placed them 2nd.

So in three years they have dropped from an average of 21,618 to 15,428. That is a decrease of 6,190 or a massive 28.6 percent. They have also dropped from 2nd spot to 7th.

This season so far they have played just two home games and one of those was played in the wet. So it's probably unfair to quote crowd figures for this season. But at the moment they are averaging 11,316 which places them 15th in the NRL. Things can only get better.

ps people keep going on about lack of supporters for some bizarre reason. Yes their crowds have been dropping but cost and performance are a big part of that, not appetite for RL in the region. Consider this
Titans crowd avg
2007 2nd best supported team in the NRL
2008 2nd best supported team in the NRL
2009 3rd best supported team in the NRL
2010 4th best supported team in the NRL

Even last year, as poor as they were, they still drew a better home crowd than 9 other NRL sides that finished higher than them.

It's hardly dire compared to some clubs!

If they are that well suported why are they asking for the NRL grants 12 months in advance to cover existing debts to players and other creditors. It is about time these so called crowd figures are given by an independent body and then you will see where the bullshit artists lie!

would be a good solution. GC is a front line battle ground with AFL, ARLC has to step in and start backing clubs. Good early test of their resolve.

Good idea for the ARLC to start investing in RL related property as a kind of investment future fund as well. A West Sydney stadium would be nice and a RL training centre in WA!
I love how you just snuck that one in there with the other good ideas

I've seen it on heaps. good ad
Good series of ads. I've seen at least three variations, all top-drawer.

Don't they? Oh well. Who does (out of interest)?

http://www.stadiums.qld.gov.au/

NRL buy that facility of the defaulting company and rent it back to the Titans RLFC to use. The only isssue is what happens to the CoE if the company that owns it goes bump. The team may need to find a new facility, but that won't help anyone.

If the NRL owns the faciltiy, other teams can send there players to it as a finishing school for rugby players then afterwards you can have a draft... ;-)

read this and weep

A 450square metre gym dominates the first floor of the Jetstar Gold Coast Titans training centre, there is also a 25 metre heated pool, and two walk through hydrotherapy pools, change rooms, medical facilities and a merchandise outlet.

Rising up a floor and those fortunate enough to pull on the clubs colours enjoy a luxury player's retreat including a dining area which is set up as a quality bistro and commercial kitchen providing player and staff meals as well as catering for any on site corporate functions.

With Titans Centre of Excellence being centrally located in the heart of the Gold Coast CBD - Robina and only a short stroll from Robina train station, the Centre of Excellence provides a great enviromnent to hold your next function or business meeting.

Offering flexible room sizes, a covered outdoor entertaining area the Centre of Excellence is a perfect option for your conference. For more information on package options click here.

Level 5 is home to the Jetstar Titans administration team, the boardroom and an audio visual room.

Where in the past Searle and Chairman Paul Broughton used the Gold Coasts beauty, lifestyle and affordability to gain key signings, the Jetstar Titans players of the future will come, not just because they want to enjoy the perfect Gold Coast lifestyle, but because they want to train and play out of world class facilities.

this thread has pics of the gym and pool area.

Regardless if its the property arm or the footy team, that is some seriously disturbing shit.

I was one of a number of people who didn't take Searle at his word about the Titans issues. Looks like I was right:
THE Gold Coast Titans' crippled financial state descended further into the abyss yesterday after a team of NRL accountants unearthed millions of dollars of hidden debt in the embattled football club. While Titans boss Michael Searle has long been adamant the club's difficulties are confined to the its property arm and its Centre of Excellence, NRL chief executive David Gallop told The Daily Telegraph an audit this week had shown all aspects of the business were under "considerable financial stress" with the total debt estimated at $35 million.
...

Titans are in the box seat to secure Cronk on a three-year deal worth about $800,000 per season despite their financial turmoil.

FMD. A genuine basketcase. This mob make the Sharks look like the New York Yankees.

The debt is bigger than first thought. It is not limited to their property arm. And now they're going to give Cronk 800k a year.

And from the other mob:
THE Gold Coast Titans' dire predicament has become even grimmer, with accountants telling the ARL Commission they owe $25 million and that the debt is not confined to the organisation's property arm but is intertwined with the football club.
On the day the Herald revealed the game's new administrators were discussing the prospect of allowing the Titans to fold and forming another franchise on the Gold Coast, the accountants' reports confirmed that the NRL's newest club is on its knees.

The titans center of excellence sounds f**king shambolic.

Would love to be an auditor scrutinising the titans business dealings and financials.

well, id say the operations of the footy team would be servicing the debt of the property company.

What would make you say that. How many NRL footy clubs make money? Most need to be serviced by poker machine revenue to stay afloat at all. No NRL club could even come remotely close to sustaining a property development company entering into multimillion dollar transactions.

$35 Million dollar debt is not sustainable considering they surely don't have the assets to that value. Cronulla's debt is $12-15 million and that is not really serviceable even though they are asset rich (thus why they are going in with developers).

As for the argument "it's the property arm, not the football club", that's just trying to cloud the issue. It's akin to saying that the Sharks Football Club isn't in debt, its the Leagues Club, or it's not News Ltd going under, it's the Daily Telegraph. It's the same business - just a different branch and whether you like it or not it affects each other - thus why the Titans are asking for early payments. If it were truly separate they wouldn't be, would they?

As for "they'll just sell it off".... Who would pay $30-35 million for a 'Centre of Excellence' in Robina. Have you been to Robina? It's in the middle of nowhere and now that not even a soccer team plays out that way, I doubt anyone will want to buy that waste of a building. It was a dumb investment by the Titans that are going to do them under.

I don't trust Searle. So his quotes don't hold much weight for me.

f**k the Titans and start a new GC team from scratch. Do it properly this time. Don't give one farkwit accountant dictatorial control.

That would hand the Gold Coast to the Suns. Something that probably wouldn't bother you.

It's off topic, but I remember seeing an iSelect ad not long ago with that stupid dude in it and the Titans players all standing in a line, and at the end of the ad the stupid dude goes 'I love football.... GOAAAAALLLLLLLLLL!'.

I couldn't stop laughing for ages but haven't seen it since. Did they take it off or something?

Didn't he say "I can't even play soccer". I've seen it a few times.
