Gladiators. There was another owner that had the licence revoked in the 1995-96 offseason, so they never actually played a 1st grade game under that moniker (They did play trials and world 7's)

Ah right, geez it's a bad logo for mid 90's, looks like it's from the early 80's

Interesting, found these pictures of Gold Coast Gladiators, looks like they had the same colours as the Chargers.

Kick the Sharks out

Titans could learn plenty from our (current) management.

We are short of cash but living within our means (& we have formulated a fair squad).

The Titans are buying glamour players & still playing like crap in front of empty stadiums.

The Gold Coast is already apathetic to the Titans, how would they fare with a completely new team?

Probably been said a million times but its amazing how those three colours could not be less suited to each other.

$30 Million in debt is unbelievable.

How the bank hasn't called in the debt since I doubt the Titans have the assets to that value.

Some one said it best in another post , "SNAKE OIL salesman" ...

It's so true, this bloke runs the titans from about 20 different companies that he is a sole director of, hmmmmmm.

Would it have killed them to be a little more modest in their first decade, less Miami dolphins more domestic rugby league...

Did you read this bit hidden at the end of the article?

The sale of the Centre of Excellence would, in fact, benefit the football club significantly by easing costs, he said. ''The financial position of the club in 2013 is even stronger than it is in 2012,'' he said. ''We're profitable in 2012 and in '13 we're profitable again and with the [sale] of the property trust relieving the debt, we're $1.5 million a year better off.''

The football dept is profitable, and that's before the TV rights windfall next year. It's the Centre of Excellence that has forced them to ask for cash advances.

The GC can house a successful club but Searle was given too much credit (literally in the case of the banks) and it turns out he's actually a f**king idiot. The CoE was a bad idea and badly executed. The stadium deal that means they pay too much rent was a bad deal. Plus they haven't recruited very well since the first season and they have relied on an old, past-it squad. The ARLC needs to do what it can to get rid of Searle, get a better stadium deal and let new admin take over that can work on recruitment, junior development and re-engaging with the community.

The Titans FOOTBALL dept is PROFITABLE!!! Does anyone have a link suggesting otherwise?

The Titans PROPERTY dept is causing the problems but this will be rectified when they sell the Centre of Excellence.

We keep hearing the football club is profitable.

Couple of queries in that regard

Is it the football club or the property group that is paying the rent on the stadium?
Do the football club pay the property group anything for the use of the training facilities?
Is the gym equipment owned by the football club or property group?
Does the football club pay the property group any rent for their office space?
Whose name are the phone, car lease and utilities in? The football club or the property group?

I ask because it is very easy to manipulate the books on any of these factors to give a impression that the football club is profitable even if it is not

The argument is that if they are in $30 million of debt - the sale of the CoE is unlikely to recoup all of that debt.

In perspective, Cronulla is in $12-15 million of debt and their assets (which includes Toyota Stadium and the surrounding land) is valued just below that. A building in Robina is unlikely to recover $30 million in debt.

Really? Crowds are down but that's understandable due to pricing. Interest in the club is also down but thats due to lack of success and frustration at Searle's ineptness.

Searle has attempted to build a 'glamour' club without any foundations. From the centre of expansiveness, the ridiculous stadium deal to the signing of players like Idris and Taylor his management stinks.

As for Clive Palmer getting involved - the guy is a plank, and his behaviour with the soccer team up there is evidence enough that you don't want him anywhere near a proffesional football team.

Gold Coast will be viable but need to be Searleless.

The ARLC seems to be on it though. Key points in the article are:

* board restructure to actually include a board rather than just Searle. This should have been in place from the start really.

* clear debt by either raising revenue by selling either a portion of the club or all/some property assets

* potential for ARLC to buy into the club with new TV deal, bringing new admin and structures to the club and

* possibly a new brand if the Titans (read as Searle) become unmanageable.

All sensible moves. The Gold Coast can and should sustain/host an NRL side.

Searle has just gone about it the wrong way on some things which has hurt, particularily by investing in property assets in the market that has been hit hardest in Australia - Gold Coast.

Is the CoE a viable building? How about the ARLC buy it and collect the rent.
Not a bad idea, but it would create a conflict of interest as owner of the property asset and governing body for the sport... better if its someone or an organisation with interests in league in the region - a bit like the way WIN TV bought into the Steelers.

Letting them die is just a threat to Seale if he doesn't comply.

commission has a good plan. I agree that they should buy the building and use it for junior development and rent the gym out to the Titans.

Have faith, we've got this.
