Issac Luke confirms Dragons move as Paul McGregor’s No.9 plan revealed

Issac Luke has confirmed he will join St George Illawarra for next season.

The veteran hooker tweeted on Sunday, “St George Dragons. On way (sic)”.

Luke, 32, had not been offered a contract extension by the Warriors and was snapped up by the Dragons on what’s believed to be a bargain for the club.

He will remain behind Cameron McInnes in the No.9 pecking order. The pair previously played together at South Sydney.


NRL.com is reporting coach Paul McGregor plans to start McInnes at rake but then move him to the backrow, and Luke will potentially come off the bench to do the dummy half role.

Luke has played 271 NRL games with the Rabbitohs and Warriors.

He only missed out on the 2014 premiership because he was suspended for the grand final.

Stay calm. I don't actually mind this at all. This is cool. We paid sweet FA for him, if he gets busted so what. If he stays fit, he is a very good player. Cameron is the teams best tackler. It is not a bad scenario. Cameron starts at hooker, Isaac on the bench. Some boof headed forward needs a breather. Luke plays hooker and the sides best tackler goes to lock. It's cool, stay calm.

I reckon he will just be backup most of the time. McInnes will probably not be able to offer much impact at lock after playing half the game at 9. Very good backup though, when fit he’s still very good, especially if our pack is fit and firing.

Luke is over the hill and a midget who gets suspended. Imagine how our pack will get manhandled with him in the team. Another poor recruitment decision when we have enough forwards and only need to replace two forwards in 2021 being Graham and De Belin.
