I wonder about awareness? Perhaps realising he didn't have enough space to even get around Blocker Roach, just stop, take the tackle. Play the 99.9%, bit the 0.1% chance.

We have a few cerebrally inept players.

You're dead right on the bomb though

I agree - he should have cut back infield.

It's a great sign that he backed himself, though.

It was a tough game. A lot of errors however and neither side settled. It seemed like they had far better kick pressure.

Nick Meaney is going to make it hard for Paps to walk straight back into this side. He is a very good player

Meaney is quality - always has been.

Not only did I have park in Eastwood, but the Westconnex past Wattle Street was closed and then the Cross City Tunnel was closed. I blame Craig Bellamy.

This puts a smile on my face. If only it started raining it would of been a perfect way to end the night and put an even bigger smile on my face this morning.

I don't think the Storm were any better than us in attack. They just defended better. In the end it was a tie after 80 minutes, in round one, with heaps of players missing from both sides. It was a lottery and we lost. It's too soon to slash our wrists.

Nobody is slashing their wrists. You don't get heaps of games in a season that come down to the last 10 with the scores locked up. Most are wrapped up and games over or your either trying to defend a small lead or chase down a small lead so you know your role and game plan.
The thing is we had 3 chances to win it. The halves let us down every time. They where unable to set the play up.

These are guys getting PAID a ridiculous amount of money. They need to be standing up and making the big plays.
Dylan needs to grab the bull by the horns and get the ball

I don't think it would have been a 7 tackle set - he left the field of play when he jumped, and would have landed in the in-goal.

It would have been a drop-out, regardless.

His kick was forced on him by his decision to take his winger on the outside; I actually think it's great he chose to back himself. It just didn't pay off.

Yes all he could do was a risk play. Catch and pass to Guth. He took the safe option and the right one.

I didn't notice as was to focussed on game and score to watch the smaller details. I'll watch again whenI can pick those things up. I just felt his leg speed was shit.
Yep you’re right, it was. However, bring Matto, Lane and Nrown in for Murchie, moimosea and makatoa and we suddenly look a lot stronger. A side something like this looks bloody strong:

1. Gutho
2. Sivo
3. Russell/Simo/Blake
4. Penisini
5. Lumelume
6. Drown
7. Moses
8. Paulo
9. Hodgson
10. RCG
11. Lane
12. Doorey
13. Hopgood

14. Cartwright or a utility
15. Nrown
16. Matto
17. Emu

I thought the Hodgson play to set up Paulo was the craftiest bit of play from a Parramatta no 9 in as long as I can remember. His defence was really good for the most part too - certainly wasn’t getting pinballed by Melbourne’s big guys as so often happened with Mahoney. If he can stay fit, he might have a big impact this year.

Did he do a 1 on 1 strip on munster as well early on.

Or was that a loose ball.

Sucks to have lost - and we really should have won; Melbourne were basically giving us the game on a platter towards the ends of regulation time.

However, some perspective, please - we lost in Golden Point to a team that hasn't lost in round 1 in 20 years.

Both teams were missing players, but the Storm still had their all representative spine (aside from Meaney).

Matterson, and Lane, would have been huge for us had they been available.
Yeah look was typical round 1 game.

My only concern is yet again when scores a level in last 5-10 mins of a game. We panic same thing happened against the Tigers last year.

I thought it was a loose ball, but could be wrong. Either way, he’s got a good footy brain, consistently alert. The concern I always had with him coming (other than injury risk) is that he might tend to overplay his hand and starve the halves, but I didn’t see much of that last night.

I think the most disappointing thing out of last night is that BA has not adjusted or kick chase even though we have one of the best long range kickers in the league.

We should have the opposition trapped on their line easily but our chasers just slowly jog. Hence why the Storms shit fullback made over 200m last night.

Also our tackling we can not dominate and slow the play the ball down they scored twice due to fast play the balls last night.

I am surprised that @Avenger did not bump the shit list thread last night. Sivo’s head was in Nadi all game. He hardly rucked it back and when he did, with zero venom. Once he batted the ball dead when he could have caught it for a 7 tackle set. Then of course with 5 to go at 12-12 he kicked it dead on the first tackle.
He jumped from the field of play it was always going to be a drop out even if he caught it, but agree with everything else you have said.

Sivo was on Fiji time with quite a few others. Besides Reg and Paulo only the new blokes seemed to have a crack. Doorey,Hopgood were excellent and Hodgson had his moments and the two tries came directly from his play. We have plenty of improvement in us but we have to cut out the silly shit and respect the ball more.

Yep, too much side to side stuff, and a lack of killer instinct to ice those moments when the forwards had us on the front foot.

Although Emu lost all his puppy fat and looked a million bucks in the warm up, he could only manage 10 before the break and 10 after. Then he was absolutely gassed. You're going to have to find a bigger tank if you want to play regular NRL merkin.

Did Blake re-injure his arm? He was carrying it late in the game but stayed on.
I'm going to say yes, the broken one.

Also Murchie limped off with that ankle that he f**ked in the trial.

Did Moimoisea get charged ?
