"It’s very realistic to say that we’ll have a second team in Brisbane in 2023": V'landys

Keep in mind that both the Firehawks and Jets might have to change their names.

The Firehawks trademark has been challenged by the Firebirds, and Newtown has been agitating for the Jets to change their name.

50/50 that the Firehawks have to change, and if Newtown actually challenges the Brisbane Jets who knows, but worth keeping in mind.

If Sydney had only 2 teams they probably would play out of big stadiums like the SFS or ANZ/BankWest.

One of the big draws of adding Brisbane 2 is getting a weekly game at Suncorp (or as close to that as possible). One of the best RL grounds in the country should be seeing regular action.
But not all RL fans in the Greater Brisbane area can make a weekly or fortnightly trip to Lang Park due to the tyranny of distance. You would be better suited having 3 teams, with 2 and 3 playing half of their games at Lang Park and the other half im areas like Logan and Moreton Bay. That way RL is played at Lang Park every week and people who cannot make the trek get up to 6 games in their region.

Logan Raptors and Moreton Bay Dolphins. Problem solved.
That would be the worst possible outcome.

That would be like ignoring Western Sydney (as a whole region) for a second team in Sydney, and going for Cronulla and/or the Northern Beaches instead.

It would make absolutely no commercial or logical sense.

Brisbane already has a team. The inner suburbs of Brisbane are becoming hotspots for latte-sippers and yuppies who look down on RL.

Moreton Bay and Logan are where the hardcore RL fans live.

History matters. Captain Patrick Logan savee the settlement in Moreton. It's important that both blokes are recognised by Queensland's premier sporting code, rugby league. Brisbane shouldn't get all the credit.

Nonsense gatekeeping like that is exactly why RL has struggled to grow out of it's working class roots.

And the fact remains that if the NRL doesn't want or need Moreton Bay, Logan, Ipswich, or wherever clubs. If it did we'd have been talking about them and not a second Brisbane club.

Brisbane is the real prize, not any of the individual parts of it.
History matters.
True, but never ever forget that depending on where a person stands history is interpreted differently by them.

To the Brits the Union Jack is a symbol of national pride, to a lot of other people it's the 'Butchers Apron'.

David Gallop spoke about Ipswich and Logan when he was CEO.

David Gallop isn't the CEO anymore...

He's also one of the worst sports administrators in Australian history, and just one guy against a wave of other people, way more important people, all taking about the need for a second Brisbane team.

Why didn't you cherry pick the David Gyngell quote you're normally so fond of?
He's talking about Brisbane, playing out of Suncorp to be specific, not Ipswich, Logan, or Morton Bay, and he's not alone.

You said NRL doesn't want Logan or Ipswich. David Gallop's comment says otherwise. No one from the NRL has said Brisbane 2 will be called Brisbane.

It also hasn’t said it won’t use brisbane lol. They’ve registered the name so are certainly considering it. And you’ve no idea how the nrl is currently rating the bids.

"We only registered it to keep it up our sleeve," Jones said.
"We will actually go to the community and get the fans input. It's not concrete and one of a number of a few tossed around, but more than likely the name Redcliffe will be dropped."

and your point? You’ve just confirmed what I’ve said, they haven’t discounted calling themselves Brisbane Dolphins and clearly it is a big consideration or they wouldn’t have registered it. The old community consultation thing is usually just something said to justify a decision already made lol.
