A 10k fumbleball ground is under construction in Ipswich for the Brisbane Lions women's and reserve grade team.

I read that Sunshine Coast Stadium will be upgraded to 20k. I don't know if that's good or bad for the Dolphins. If a stadium is built there then I cannot see any popping up in Moreton Bay. I am not convinced they can draw enough fans from Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast while they're a Moreton Bay club.
Sunshine Coast will be 16,500, cairns 20k. Don’t really understand why for the olympics they’d do sunshine coast or Toowoomba rather than redcliffe though?

You want to repeat sydneys problems by adding small suburban clubs to brisbane?
There's over 400k people in Moreton Bay and that number will rise over the next 30 years. They could become a team for Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast, which will have close to a million between them in 15 or so years from now.

that’s like saying north Sydney has 1 million people plus gosford as well so manly are fine, reality is they aren’t supporting manly so why would someone not from redcliffe support Redcliffe? Sunshine Coast is similiar distance from Redcliffe as gosford is from manly!

They can split games between Dolphin Oval and Sunshine Coast Stadium.

They can but manly could split games between brookvale and cc stadium, but neither will with only 11-12 home games a Year.

bot hypocritical to berate Sydney for having small suburban clubs then suggest brisbane should do the same!

This discussion just goes around in circles... When is an announcement supposed to be made?
Everything seems to have gone quiet on the expansion front.. understandable, given the number of headaches with relocating the whole competition (and the bubble rules).

There is a difference between Dolphins and Sea Eagles.

The Dolphins will not be Redcliffe. Unlike Manly, their name will be neutral and inclusive to attract fans from far and wide. Potential names thrown up by the bid team include Brisbane, South Queensland and Sunshine State. The club also plans on taking games to the Sunshine Coast, with most of them played at Lang Park.

Dolphins are powerful off the field. Manly isn't.

There is no Bears vs Sea Eagles conflict preventing the Dolphins from attracting support from Moreton Bay and the Sunshine Coast. A few older people will hate Redcliffe, but the club's target audience will be people who don't have any animosity towards the Dolphins because they never saw the BRL in its hey day.

I wouldn't have a problem with Manly if they were to rebrand as the North Sydney Sea Eagles and market themselves as a club representing everywhere from the North Shore to the Central Coast. They refuse to do this and are a small isolated club because of it.

Spot on. The team has to train somewhere. It just happens to be in Redcliffe. The problem with RL in Sydney is not where the clubs are located - they are actually spread out reasonable well - it is simply that there are not enough RL fans for 9.5 teams. Brisbane won’t have that problem with two (or three) teams.

Nine teams is too many for Sydney. There's just not enough commercial opportunities for nine teams in a city of 5 million and just 3 FTA games on Ch9.

There're at least two massive gaps in the coverage of Sydney, Northern Sydney and Macarthur/South West, and that is un-f**king-forgivable in a competition with 9 teams in the one city and with other smaller regions within the city that have multiple teams.

So if Manly changed their name to Sydney everybody would just forget their history and they'd siphon a bunch of support off of the other Sydney clubs? Because that's what you are suggesting will happen if the Dolphins change their name to Brisbane/whatever, and it's just as delusional in both cases.

I mean why not just call them the Australian Dolphins because all you have to do to "represent" an area is change your name to include that geographical area right, and with a market of 25mil they'll be the largest team in the country for sure .

The cognitive dissonance some people have when it comes to this subject is honestly astounding.
