It is tough being a dragons supporter

Panthers have the cattle and a head coach who knows how to get the best out of a team who are mostly local juniors.
I'd say that if Hook was the head coach of the Panthers he would have the team firing as well due to the great players they have which he at some stage had a hand in coaching them.

Barrett also could have the Panthers doing well if he was the coach. The Bulldogs consists mainly of the older brigade with a couple of new recruits. The old guard, which lacks class, cannot play the Barrett way unfortunately. The Bulldogs will lose 5 games straight when they face the Storm next weekend.

It is the combination of a number of thing snot just the coach, squad, salary cap balance or the club facilities. For example it would have made a huge difference to the Dragons if Norman moved on, Sullivan played at 6 and we brought back AFB. We would still be in front with the salary cap; enought to replace Frizell with a quality edge forward. But most of this action had to happen before Mary was sacked.

Right now Saints have it all but are just missing an AFB type prop and a top grade edge forward. The Sullivan for Norman idea would have given Sullivan a full season in first grade; great preperation for 2022.

Fullback is our only other consideration but this problem can be handled internally. Get Dufty up to standard or promote Ramsey into the job.

Sometimes I do feel sad when I see how far the Club has fallen. You know the fans are usually always right; they are on the ball and can see we management or a coach takes a wrong turn.

But I feel privileged to be born into a family of fanatic St George supporters and have no regrets as I was there when we won 11 grand finals in a row.

St George has been ill treated by the ruling body for a long time now:
The four tackle and then 6 tackle rule was invented to cease our dominance.
The carving up of our traditional territory by introducing new clubs Cronulla and Illawarra to first grade.
And after being loyal to the national body and NOT joining Supere League, we are forced into a joint venture will Illawarra, a failed Club with parochial and irresponsible management.

I am of the belief that we are now on the way up. The future of our Club will be fine once we rid ourselves of WIN Corp/Gordons as part owners and have them return as generous sponsors.

Yes, the completion of our cleanout is still ahead of us but it is in progress and one day in the near future it will be complete. Our roster will naturally improve, the ineffective managers will be weeded out and replaced and although we will keep the name and represent both the St George District and Illawarra Region, it will be the St George Club and another corporate partner who will hold the NRL licence.

I think things have turned around and that from now on, we will be on the improve. Our forwards were great today and our young backs are improving all the time; Clune and Williame did OK.

Next round against Parra will be a good guage on our status n the competition.

These days I take each day as it comes. I'm not so healthy and struggle even with posting on this forum. Using read out loud nost of the time.

Just loving the way things have turned around for the Dragons and Yes, I hope I see another grand final win sooner rather than later.

I reckon Hook is making a run for the GF this year.
Why not?

This is the age of instant gratification

Transaction & horsetrading bonanzas

- and there are a lot of mooted similarities to Bennett’s recruitment of mongrel & forward power in 2009

Remember Hook only has 2 yrs ATM, and he remembers Gould’s clumsy & outmoded 5yr plan timeframe.

.... And he knows Craig will be jockeying for Deano’s return WTF

Yes Williame (& Clune of course) are just OK, but not grandfinal material.

Seatwarmers ATM IMO

We lack another strike player/Xfactor in the centres
....and can’t just rely on Zac’s slick passing/catching.

There must be a genuine line breaker in the centres if we are to emulate 2010

- & I’d hoped Max would’ve been given that chance

- but alas we currently have Williame,
who can run into a hole or finish a play set up for him

Schiller perhaps is in Hook’s end-of-year plan

- and there’re a distinct lack of backline recruitment
rumours.

But if 2021 is in Hook’s GF deliberations, then the backline wunderkinder need some gametime & rotation
... now that we’re off to a solid start towards the 8

Perhaps we’ll just have to rely on Sullivan & Duff hunting & running off forward breaks & offloads if our pack continues its spectacular renaissance.

But that’s still not enough to jag top4 without a genuine No3

And BTW our backline passing & timing is still perhaps the comp’s worst IMO.

A great game, won finally on the back of Tariq’s linespeed

PS
The cap has failed, as has NRL Admin
... as we now have probably the most unequal & predictable comp in history FFS

I reckon Bird is a pretty genuine no3 that can play elsewhere if needed.

I agree ALSGI.......as I said last week just having his presence on the field in particularly amongst the younger blokes is a huge bonus for us....and you watch he will get better and better each time he gets another match under his belt and his confidence grows from his past bad luck with injuries

There is no doubt that Hook can coach. We can see it with our own eyes, it’s the same players but 2 completely different teams.

The doubts about him centred on players being off with him. I was a bit concerned with the McInnes contract issue and by pursuit of AM, but that’s proven to be the right move. Seems Cam wasn’t entirely happy with Mary being dumped (rumour from JA) hence Hook moved him to the background. That could she gone 1 of 2 ways, but at this stage, it’s proven the right move.

It remains to be seen if he can keep the squad together, but there are good signs. The squad hasn’t looked this together in years. Seems to have no favourites like McGregor did, just expects everyone to do their job.

Winning helps too I suppose and he won’t have a Gus stabbing him in the back.
