It is tough being a dragons supporter

I know you are referring to the 60s or whenever that run was, but even just 10 years ago I remember looking at the Dragons thinking how I would love to support a strong club like that compared to the lowly panthers who had fluked one top 8 finish in about 8 years. Things have changed obviously but a few more years will probably see things change again.
Gould and the Panther management had a vision to buy up junior clubs in their area and west of Penrith. This a vision to produce one of the best junior nurseries in the NRL.

St George could have and had the money to do the same. Imagine if St George bought up all the junior clubs from Kogarah to south of the Illawarra region. No merger to bring us down and in complete charge of our Club. Restructuring things so that Red V members could have a say in the make-up of our Board would be a much simpler task than that of what we face now. And just imagine if Doust was let go 10 years ago. The Taj would most probably be full refurbished by now and all the big stage acts would return to entertain members once again.

These days you can become a St George Leagues Club member in an instant. Back in the 60s and 70s you were placed on a long waiting list to become a member.

Those were the days my friend.

One of my schoolmates Dad was a lower grade player with Wests during part of the 11 year reign.
Hated Saints, absolutely hated Saints.
Too true, there is an old ex lower grade Wests player who drinks and punts every Saturday at SCSC (Sutherland) and I only see him now and again but he still brings up the 63 grandfinal.
As the Eagles sang "Get over it".

.....Thats the thing with Saints games; i’d consider matches vs Cronulla, Souths, Easts, Parramatta, Canterbury and Tigers all equivalent to local derby intensity or grudge matches because of our wonderful history. Throw in our rivalry with the ‘newbies’ Brisbane and Melbourne and to a lesser degree with Newcastle who we’ve also have had some epic games with....
Were a promoter’s dream as really most games we play have that extra sting to them. The League is so much better when the Dragons are strong!

Then he was never a Saints fan.

He was a trophy hunter.
He’s stuck with them for over 50 years, I’m not sure why now all of a sudden he’s decided to support his local team in the Raiders? This is one of the more hope filled years I can remember. Things are starting to happen, some good astute buys, some good juniors all about the same age coming along together. New coach, new CEO. Now is not the time to quit.

That’s why so many of the older generation hated my beloved St George Dragons.
We were hated and envy of all other clubs. A bit like the purple Mexicans in Victoria now. We all hate the storm but envy their winning culture.
A long long time ago our club was an amazing majestic winning juggernaut ... and now run by idiots.
Where did it all go wrong?
I would say the NRL have always given a little helping hand to Melbourne to try to get them competitive down there. If they were truly ruthless they wouldn’t still be feeding them with Qld junior’s. they could have said within 10 years we need some Victorian juniors coming through but there still isn’t a grass roots presence there as far as I’m aware. I liked what Hook said at the Dragons academy about how we want to be a club that players from Kogarah to the south coast want to grow up playing for.

It may be tough being a Saints supporter at times but who would want to be a Doggies supporter, they're getting flogged again, to nil by the Rabbits.

Record books saying way back to 1928 for the three times to nil start to the season.

You could almost feel for their supporters ................ l said, almost.

Trent is a very good assistant coach but a woeful head coach. His win rate at Manly was 40% and we know that his current win rate at the Bulldogs is 0%. They have the Storm next followed by the Cowboys, Sharks, Eels and Dragons. If the Cowboys get their act together, hard to be confident as they are are a basket case, then the Bulldogs might be 0 - 9 as I think that the others including us will beat them.

So, whilst we have had it tough being a Dragons supporter, think about the Dogs who with the signing of Barrett and several "reputable" new players looked like they would be tough to beat and win a few.

Throw in Manly and the Cowboys and their fans will also have it tough this year.

There will be a 3 way tussle for the top 3 (Penrith, Souths, Parramatta) and a 3 way tussle for the wooden spoon (Manly, Cowboys, Bulldogs) come seasons end is my prediction.

True that, DD.

I would’ve thought the Dogs perform better than they have.
With Trent being an ex club player, l certainly don’t wish him any ill thoughts, he’s a pretty decent guy.
However, as you mentioned, being an assistant is probably his level.
He was supposedly very well liked at Penrith. Twice now he’s left, for poorer pastures.

Barrett is Mary V2.
End of.

He spat the dummy at Manly and my bet is he will be sacked by years end.

Fancy Josh Addo-Carr going to the Bulldogs next year and leaving a strong Storm club. No doubt it is the money and not anything else, so he will go through the motions. Burton might be having second thoughts.
Poor ol' Trent, what will he be complaining about now. Not the old desk in the room he works in or a lack of furniture?

Just goes to show that you can't buy a winning team over 1 year. Griffin has done a fine job bringing some players and developing some players. He has a winning culture right now so, let's hope he can keep it going.
