It still hurts when they lose..

Dragons won the 2010 premiership off the back of defence, it's what drives the game now. I have no problem stiffening the defence.

I don't think anyone is disputing that.
It's the lack of regard for ball in hand that is concerning. As it stands, we're so mundane in attack that it's literally affecting the battle for field position, and in turn putting us under extra pressure in defence.
Good teams concede fewer points because they play the game down the other end as well as defending well.
There's a world of difference between hypothetical Harlem Globetrotters nonsense and the crap we're currently dishing out. A sensible middle ground is what we're after.

My Dragons went off the rails over last few seasons...it took a coach sacking, club clean out and rebuild and refocus to get back on track. While we are not there yet...we are on the right track... you guys need to look at the player roster and some key players let go in recent years. I don't think you have the right mix of experience and youth right now. Way too much pressure on your young halves and fullback...

Of course it hurts because we have passion as supporters. After a 50-55 hour week I want to watch my team play with heart, skill and passion and not one out bash it up and bomb. That just makes me sad and lose my s**t for 80 minutes. Then not to mention grumpy for some time after....

We came 1 point away from beating them in the semi final purely on attack. I'm starting to think we should stick to our strengths instead of re-inventing the wheel.

However, on the other hand we really do need to improve our defence. Are we going to be able to do this with our current roster? I think with a couple of key signings of hard working, tough, proven FG defenders could make a huge difference.

I think our defence has improved, however playing one out in attack is not going to tire out or ask the oppositions defence question. In a sense our current attack is detrimental to our defence.

They better get good at defending, because they'll be doing a lot of it with the current game plan and players.

What did an attacking brand of football garner us in the 9 finished seasons since 2005? 2 finals appearances and many missed opportunities.

It ain't working either.

Score 18 points.. your defense needs to be able to defend 3 tries , score one and your defense needs to be 3 times better . Very obvious I know but that essentialy is what his plan is requiring us to do.
Back to 2005 we blitzed sides with attack and along with that came confidence in defence.

Its not that hard to get is it. When your attack is crap it also means the opposition can take it easy and then give it back to us when they have the ball.

This is spot on and the fact that our boys can't even defend a 22 point lead shows no amount of attack is going to make up for their poor defence. Taylor has said in the past that this team needs to earn the right to play attacking football and to me, they haven't demonstrated that they have earned that right yet.

If Taylor is sacked or he backs down from his plan and let's the attack do the work instead of the defence, then he will have failed in his efforts to change the culture at this club. This culture of softness, of weakness, of being easybeats, of being content with losing as long as we're playing attractive football, it's gotta go if the club is going to be one that's always in contention comes finals time.

Im not sure if a rookie is the right person to be attempting to change a clubs poor soft culture.

Id have thought it would take someone like a Bennett, Bellamy Gould, Hasler....someone with the runs on the board.

Sheens fits that mould, but he knew he had a freak, once in a lifetime player in marshall coming thru and based it all around him for a decade....it was [pretty and fancy and won us a comp...but when push come to shove we shit ourselves

Nathan Brown should have got the jig. No idea what the difference was between what was presented to the board to decide upon.

on the pain and hurt on losing

“There is a saying in Tibetan, 'Tragedy should be utilized as a source of strength.'
No matter what sort of difficulties, how painful experience is, if we lose our hope, that's our real disaster."

The Dalai Lama can get f**ked. He is obviously not a Tigers supporter.

The sport was quite different in 2005; I'm sure C Bellamy was watching and thinking, this attack based league and soft/touch footy (yes, I know I'm exaggerating there a little) to stop, and it soon did. By 2008 I felt the NRL was on its knees, which is why 2 refs came in in 2009, something had to be done, and the football of 2009 was better to watch than most of the matches in 2008. Of course coaches have found other ways around it now, which is why interchanges have to come down to 6.

But defence is important and always has been obviously, and J Taylor is right, we need to change the culture of the club and that starts with the defence on the field. Build from there.

No, you can still call them Wests or Wests Tigers when talking to mates in Aus, but internationally it's not a great name guys. Western Sydney Tigers would be better.
