what i do know is ......

www.rabbitohs.com has had troubles with issues such as these .......there is a poster(a boody good one at that) who go's by the name of "the botak" that has been unearthing all of souths dirty laundry onto the forum!

Chris wilson(board member) and David Tapp(souths ceo) then posted abusing comments on the board, and threatened legal action unless he stopped posting defamatory comments(mind you, botak often had plenty of evidence to back up his claims) ........

Tappy then spoke to his lawyers about what could be done to shut down the forum, and there answer was "nothing can be done" ............and as proof, rabbitohs.com still lives...........and you wont find a website with more defamatory posts than that one(great site though, and a great read).......

So all this legal mumbo jumbo sounds like bullcrap to me ..............

LOL, I was the first poster on the "NEW" Official Sharks Forum and now groggo has the distiction of being the last. RIP...

I saw the letter that closed down the Warriors forum and that wasn't it. It may have been one of the posts from the same poster but the one I saw was far more damning, infinitely more ridiculous, and held accusations against a different person.

Now having said that, Cheese and millernose, can you please edit your own posts to remove the fake letter entitled 'some moron wrote'?

Cheese, I know you said that you expect the post to get deleted and that you're cool with that... but this begs the question, why did you put it up in the first place?
Especially considering that you called for what it is, written by: 'a stupid little uneducated pre-teen'.

You had the power to put it up, you also have the power to pull it down. I recommend a simple self-edit.

Moderators are not there just to to clean up after others and I personally hate hitting 'delete' buttons. So your help here would be appreciated.

This is all part of giving you guys the repsonsibilty of looking after your own forum. Perhaps this is a little foreign to how other forums operate but its the way we like to do things here at TFR.

millernose, I know you're thinking no one really gets sued etc (which is not entirely correct)... but I have no interest in taking calls from strangers over some silly post that was published on another site. Plus in basic terms I'm covering my bases. I'm sure you understand.

the official forum was down for long stretches anyway all last year

the site was crap

cheese posted an excelent critique

have you still got it cheese?

and take it from me this site is run with the most integrity that i have ever seen from a RL forum

The forums had been going strong for once. Back last year and early this year it was down all the time and now when it had been up for a while its taken from us.

You may be right about that not being the exact post that forced the closure, but it was one of the posts that that guy posted on the day it closed ..(err...dutch?!)

And naa millers, that post got lost in the "wash" ........lets face it though, sharks.com was, and is a piece of crap! The forum was the only semi-decent thing on the website..

It's all very easy really. Rather than sit here and speculate write an email to the club and ask them why it has been taken down.

There may have been quite a few lies told in this thread aleady if anybody is saying that the three mods of the Sharks forum were seeking more power. Not one of us ever asked for that but we WERE told what we were expected to do. The "power" was the same all the way through, no more or less than the 3 mods here have now, all that changed was we were instructed to exercise it in order to try and save/maintain the forum.

The Sharks forum wasn't even moderated in the beginning if people dust off the cobwebs and kick the memories into gear. The mods were brought in due to looming trouble the club knew about well BEFORE a certain article appeared on rleague. Why didn't people know that - simple, didn't need to know. Why did the warnings increase? Because we already knew the writing was on the wall months ago. The club wanted the forum down before the semis but gave us a chance to save it by warning people of the danger and trying to keep it clear of crap. No apologies from me for that I'm sorry. The ones who should apologise are the posters that wouldn't heed the advice, always knowing better. Comments like "Ando is corrupt" are of course going to get the club nervous so don't blame the mods - blame the members. It was their place and they shat in their own nest.

The 2 people suing the Warriors forum are Ray Hadley and Ricky Stuart. The are suing for defamation. This is the 99% of the reason the forum has been closed despite earlier speculations and offensive counter speculations. It is very unlikely to reopen in any format until those cases have run their course, if they make it to court.

Like Willow I have read all the letters, 3 in all, that were published on that site and whether posted by a mischievous troll or not they have managed to cause a whole heap of bother.

I still have copies of two of the letters, the worst 2 but they will not be published here and although the Warriors don't deserve to be sued due to the rambling of an idiot in law they do deserve it because they allowed the ramblings to be published.

Ohhhh man, I'm so glad I got outta that forum moderating gig when the Grandstand shut down. Its such a hassle. So much easier just being a powerless drone and not copping abuse every time you delete an innapropriate post.

The beginning of the end for the forums was the article that was posted on RL's front page and an email that was then sent to 2GB, and the rest is history...The article was not even the reason, but gave them the tool to spew their venimous crap! It wasn't even a FORUM comment!

I haven't seen the letters you talk about other than the 2 I saw posted here, before being ditched, or requested to be ditched...

No ones got the balls to take this to the "HILT"... Go beat Hadleys brains out in court if thats what it takes, but FFS someone have a go at doing it!!

We can then sue his arse for all of the crap that happened before, on his suggestion!

I would also like to state that I STILL have the "Chris Chong" article on my page and it had over 1500 hits on it in a few weeks... that is AWSESOME for my meek site. NO ONE has threatened any action to sue me, asked me to remove it or in anyway said ANYTHING about it, other than what I read in other forums that had links to the page and that was things like "Is that all this is about, wtf?" LU also had it on their site and that contributed hundreds of hits.

The article was a storm in a tea cup. I can't believe that there are some people still willing to make a fuss over it.

btw, you don't know much about this site so please don't tell people what it is that attract visitiors. LU has nothing to do with the article you're referring to.

one only needs to listen to talk back radio to find far more litigious content every day

also i stand by the fact there is no episode in australian law were a forum owner has been held liable for a post on that forum

as there is no legal precedent a law would have to be raised to cover it

i think a lot of the current hysteria has been propagated by lots of groups of people

some moderators around the traps for example have been running around for months preaching doom and gloom unless they are made mightier and given more censorship control

as these people are going to the administration of clubs with their scare mongering in order to increase their little power bases they have frightened the clubs into the belief that legal action is immediately immanent

Talkback radio is on a delay to cut out the really bad stuff and makes a heap of money for the station, it is a risk but one well worth it (but god help anyone who listens to it). A net forum is just a risk for a club.

There is a heap of legal precedent - the medium used to publish doesn't change the act of publishing. The law doesn't distinguish if the material is printed, faxed, photocopied, purely electronic (see the 'Crikey' lawsuit), it is the fact of publication that matters otherwise the laws would need revision almost daily.

The Cawley/Bulletin suit where she sued them over a 'letter to the editor' shows exactly what can be done in this area, they published it - they wear the action.
