After studying the teams above us and just below 3o pints is a must to make the 8. In other words we MUST win 4 of our next 5. Can we do it?:?

Can we? Yes!

Will we? Who knows, depends on which team turns up. The committed, fired up team (seen against the Storm), or the lazy, ill-directed side (seen against many sides this year!!!)

It is a tough, tough ask. One thing for sure, if we don't beat the Titans, I think 2010 is gone.

If we win this week then Yes we will make it. We may lose one but we'll win the rest i reckon.

If we don't win, then i can see us losing most of the remaining games.

I have got a funny feeling that it will come down to our last game at home against the Warriors.

We will need to win this game to make it.

I hope i'm wrong.

I think we will beat the Tigers, otherwise, I dont know.

Depending on the outcome of Burgess' grapple, I reckon Souths will beat Tigers this week. (If Burgess plays). If he doesnt, I still think Souths are a chance - dependant on Luke & Champion playing.

Otherwise, I dont think the Tigers will win another game this season. (I posted 3 weeks ago, that I thought the Tigers would be lucky to win one of their next 4 - well, Moanly beat them, Sharks should have beaten them on the weekend.)

I think the for & against may play a role in the end, even if we can get on a role. (At the moment, our for and against is the worst of the bottom 4 teams (in the eight).

Looking at the other teams, and the games left to play I just cant see us making it. We would need to win 5, and knock off 3 of our competitors in the Tigers,Souths & Warriors in that 5.

Its not rocket science - its just plain mathematics.

Thats my view anyway.

We're going to have to start scoring some points are our for and against is shocking after saturday. Ultimately, our destiny is in our own hands as our next 5 games are against other contendors which sounds bad, but at least we know who we have to beat and every game for the remainder of the season is potentially a 4 point game not just for us but for every other team in contention for the 8.

Teams that are more or less secure in the top eight have been losing of late, with teams that we'll be in direct competition with for a spot picking up points ... that's going to hurt us, I reckon.

Very disappointing, but the team's only got themselves to blame. The knew they wouldn't be able to coast along this year with an amazing streak at the end ... but in the end that's exactly what we have to hope for now.

If the Storm hadn't been stripped of points, we'd have no hope at all. Zero. On that basis, you'd almost have to say we don't deserve to be there. Sigh.

Also, that is why some of this season's early losses are coming back to haunt us now.
It's a crock of sh*t that people argue that comps aren't won in March/April.
Maybe so, but they sure as hell can be lost then.

Their payroll is 1.5 times everyone else's. So their 11 wins would be more like 8.

Oh - they'd be behind us - oh dear.

So if they were legal we'd still be the same faint, remote, outside chance that we currently are.

we have a snowballs chance in hell and thats about all, if the players want to make the 8 they will, but if they just turn up and expect it to happen it won't and they won't make it.
It's in thier hands.

If we win the next two, we'll make it. If we lose, we won't. If we win only one, well we're right back to where we are now.

Perhaps I should rephrase ... if evidence of the Storm's cheating hadn't surfaced, resulting in them being stripped of their points, blah blah blah.

That was my point.

Regardless of the illegality of the team, the NRL are still allowing them to play games and have a very real impact on the competition.

It's a mess, but my point is that we're kind of lucky that we even still have a sniff. Shrug.

Agreed - they have the ability to win every game

win 4/5 and definitely make it - would also mean they are a chance to do well in the finals.
Win 3/5 and hope other results go our way - they would be making up the numbers.

As Suitman said - if they had of won 2/3 out of Cronulla and Newcastle games then they would be fairly comfortable in the 8.

And so we should be. Neither of those teams are anything special this year and were never going to be.

Despite our halves dilemma and attacking problems this year, the one issue that constantly resurfaces, season after season, is the mentality of our team when we play weaker opposition. We should be all over these sides but we're not.

We could be hypothetically challenging for the minor premiership if we won all those games, this problem needs to be resolved, we need more of a killer instinct and put teams to the sword when they're vulnerable.

We've played ourselves into a position now that when we play Cronulla, they're mentally up for us every time because they believe they can beat us and we let it happen. It's almost as though we get scared we'll lose to a lower side, that we play cautious against them or play at their level. They then see our mental weakness and expose it. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy and it irritates me to no end. We are better then that and we should start believing in our own team worth when we play those type of sides.

we are like chameleons sometimes even against the top sides if they start throwing wild passes and dropping the ball then we start throwing wild passes and dropping the ball (the knights game is a perfect example)
so often i have seen us struggle to win or even lose games that were sitting there on a platter for the taking if we just took control of the game and stopped imitating the other team
