Between the banning of the shoulder charge and this move that will likely eliminate the big boppers from the game, we're only a few moves away from jersey grabbing AFL-esque 'melees' being the highlights of our game.

Where have you been since the middle of last season?

The game needs big boppers so IMO they will still get a similar break on the sidelines as they do now. I think this will mostly effect hookers and 2nd rowers that are not 80min players.

Generally I don't see much changing, coaches will find other ways of getting more on field rest.
However I do think that having 2 less interchanges in SOO will have a greater impact.

Every team will be hoping they get Adam Devshit as their referee every week knowing that every decision - from whether a player is held up in the in goal when trying to score to whether or not his whistle is loud enough - will be sent to the video ref for confirmation.... Games with Devshit refereeing probably won't even end up using half the 8 interchanges they'll all be so fresh from stoppages...

That is what Wayne Bennet said during an interview earlier this week that the Video Referees should be on a shot clock. He cited the same reasons (namely length of time the VR take to make decisions) as working counter to the shot clock and reduced interchange.

He didn't mention Devcich though ;-)

So in today's warriors v eagles game manly lost their 4th player to injury in the 55th minute, they had to play with only 13 players and no substitutes left. Now according to the 'fatigue theory' manly should of opened up and warriors should of no worries with beating manly with beautiful free flowing football. Instead we had no change at all in style of football and manly in fact ran away with an easy win.

Another tick for reducing the interchange than.

if that's right then we should go to 5 interchanges, if we stay at 13-a-side. and in the top level (NRL, Origin, Test football) one of the interchange players has to be a recognised rake or halfback/five-eighth.
