All power to the Souths fans for hanging in there, but the thing that bugs me.is...

All we ever hear is "how George Piggins only wants whats best for South Sydney". Balderdash! George Piggins only wants South Sydney to be exactly the way George Piggins wants Souths Sydney to be. He will run that place into the ground. He refuses to accept that there are other people in the world with more business accumin than he, and he refuses to believe that other people actually want Souths to be succesful.

He is blind to the fact that people with common sense are against him, whilst The people that support him get a schooner at Souths Leagues for Breakfast & wouldn't know how to fill out a deposit slip at the bank!

Leave Souths alone George, give them a chance to live!

Well said!!

But whats wrong with schooners for brekkie?:b:

Souths are moving forward with Richo and Pappas running the club. George needs to wake and realise that.

They offer absolutely nothing to the comp (except for a few laughs because of their totally inept management). Day after day the papers are full of this joke of a clubs problems and it's only going to get worse. Season 2006 will see them playing to crowds of 6000 in a 80,000 crowd stadium, the atmosphere will be non existant. They failed dismally to attract decent players to their club, even Piggins nephew and Souths junior Anasta didn't want anything to do with them. Their own captain took a 50% paycut to jump off the sinking ship. Add to this the ongoing saga of two legends in their own minds trying to buy the club and the whole saga is more embarrasing than George Piggins. So come on NRL do us all a favour and put this pathetic club out of it's misery.

Alternatively they could just replicate the Roosters strategy in climbing up the ladder.

Namely - bring in a cashed up media mogul to inject large wads of cash into the club, then blatantly disregarding an unenforceable salary cap, sign every decent player coming on the open market as well as every promising junior. At no stage should they attempt to develop their own talent or nurture their ever dwindling junior league.

That's the way to do it!

Whilever George is there they can expect to stay in the cellar. If George went now then they could build a future with Sutton, etc. I can see that crop leaving for other clubs if they dont get rid of ol Georgie boy and the problems he causes quickly.

I stand corrected. That record looks much better.

More importantly ER for the amount of $$$$ spent by your mob I would think that the points table at the end of last season would be more of a worry to your mob and not the bunnies mob. If memory serves me correct it was something like:

9th Roosters - 26
...
11th Souths - 23

But most of the folk on here are right. George should bow out and let fresh life and ideas into the club, it isn't the 60's or 70's anymore George.

My club spends the same amount as any other club. If there is a club who should be under the salary cap microscope it would have to be the Illawarra socks.

The sad part is that George has NO official position with the SSDRLFC, yet the papers know he's a complete moron and will go to him for a good news story on an otherwise slow sporting day. Piggins is a moron who voices all his opinions through the media rather than in-house as it should be.

Even though Souths haven't won a Premiership in 30-odd years, we were fairly successful in the 80's, making the semis pretty much every year. Once George took over we went from Minor Premiers to Wooden Spooners, and have been stuck in this rut ever since.

Nick Pappas (the real hero who got us back in the comp) has taken some very big strides for Souths since he became chairman of the club. He got us a CEO who knows what he's doing in Shane Richardson (even if I don't agree with his methods sometimes), and loads of corporate sponsorship. We now have a coach who can actually coach, and the juniors are providing both significant financial support, as well as the latest crop of juniors that are coming through from our successful SG Ball and Jersey Flegg sides. All our key juniors have been retained for at least 2 years. Oh and for all the talk about Braith Anasta - Sutton will be much, much better.

George Piggins only official role these days is as Chairman of the South Sydney Leagues Club - a white elephant that is losing an estimated $80k a MONTH.

We have a successful businessman who is looking to invest significantly in the football club, bail George's Leagues club out of dept, and re-developing Redfern into a class TRAINING facility (plus it would be a great place for Junior games - Flegg and lower). Yet all George wants to do is badmouth Peter Holmes a Court in the media for wanting to help.

South Sydney, led by Nick Pappas, Shane Richardson and Shaun McRae are doing their utmost in bringing Souths out of the cellar and becoming competitive on and off the field. Whilst I don't like Telstra Stadium, I can understand how as a cash-strapped club we needed the guaranteed income. A successful 3 years at the ground would give us a strong case to be able to bargain with the SCG Trust for a better deal back at Aussie (according to Richardson, Souths made more money from two games at Gosford than 9 games at Aussie this year - and we'll be making more than that at Telstra). We are one of the Top 3 sponsored clubs in the NRL in terms of monetary value. Hell, we had two bloody major sponsors this year!! In terms of on field, well we won 6 of our last 8 games (only losing to the eventual grand finalists), a sign that we're on our way up at last.

The unfortunate thing is that the only thing stopping us from being a financial powerhouse is the fact that we do not receive one cent from our Leagues Club - one of only two NSW clubs (the other being Newcastle) in this situation. Clubs like the Roosters and Bulldogs receive $3m a year in a grant from their Leagues club. Had Souths received this sort of money, we'd be in a better position.

Who's in charge of the Leagues Club? George Piggins.

If it wasn't so sad it'd be funny. I can see how we're the laughing stock of the NRL. The sooner George has nothing to do with our once great club, the sooner we can let people who actually know what they're doing build our club into one that us as supporters can be proud of once again.

Cheers.

Eastern Rooster - get over yourself. Souths finally have some decent juniors coming through (Yes, from their OWN area) that will serve the game well for a while to come. They are going upwards - don't kick them out when they are finally starting to do well.

Now, to my next point, Souths are creating their OWN juniors. Roosters are not, they buy juniors. So what is the point of having the Roosters? To pillage other clubs good work?

Of course i don't believe that the Roosters should be kicked out, but your whole argument is floored.

Souths to finish higher than the Chokers (Roosters, not Dragons)! (maybe not in '06, but they will one day!)

I guess the real issues is that Easts are running at their absolute capacity - and have been since Nick Politis united Graham Muaray and Freddy Fittler. Which was about 20 years after Nick took over the Chooks.

Souths are going through the same turmoil that Easts went through when the baton was bassed from Seabrook to Politis. SOmetime soon, Souths will find their feet. With Souths Juniors and or Crowe and HAC's $ behind them, a very astute CEO, a reasonable nursery and the cities 2 largest stadiums fighting for them, it will happen.

And when it does, Souths will absolutly dwarf Easts in EVERY way: juniors, crowds, and capital.

Juniors schmuniors, who cares. It's not 1971 anymore, the game is professional now and the Roosters are at the top of the tree. The tock is clicking for Souths and if they don't start performing then the end is near.

You wish. Just keep pretending that Souths have a future.

Roosters is the ultimate blueprint for how to attempt to buy a premiership ... and fail spectacularly

No, that'd be Parramatta... The Roosters won one.

Actually the Roosters are closer to the bottom than the top. 9/15, remember?

Well I'll Be old and grey beofre Souths win a premiership. Oh just a thought - since no one has a claim on "juniors" and it is an open market - what is to stop all Souths juniors going to Parramatta, Penrith, Wests, Brisbane etc..nothing
