It's too expensive to release Smith.

I don't have a great understanding of Parra's finances, but I assume that Smith would be on around 400 000 so to pay out the remainder of his contract would be a great cost.

Not only that, but you have to pay good money if you want to secure a good replacement coach.

Fitzgerald was ridiculous to offer a coach such a long contract.

Unless there is a drammatic turnaround in form over the next 2 weeks he really should swallow his pride and stand down if he's fair dinkum.

I'm resigned to the fact that he will be there for atleast June 2006, therefore I'm bracing myself for 2 of the darkest years in the clubs history!

by then, I hope that the nucleaus of the Mathews team [if they are still there] would be able to step up ala Panther 2003 style under the guidence of Laurie Daley or Glen Lazarus.

I can only dream.

If Brian Smith is not sacked, it will be bacause of money. It will be because Denis is NOT going to give in to the public and give them what they want. He has not done it in the past, and wont start in the future. If you dont believe me, think back to the abyss that was 1988-1996. I rest my case.

Last time Parra's future looked as bleak as this, the Super League war saved us. That's not likely to happen again soon.

Next time anyone speaks to Smith, ask if the stress of the job is getting to him. Ask if he has thought about retirement. Maybe he could take some time off to write an autobiography. Anything to get his mind onto leaving voluntarily.

A mate of mine last week, sent a letter to the board basically ripping into them about the buying and selling of players. What do you know, but Brian rings him on his mobile making every excuse under the sun about this player and that player that he let go, and vica versa for players he signed.

Whilst i am quite impressed that he took the time to ring my mate, and talk to him for 45 minutes, i think it shows the desperate stage things have got to for him. After the phone call, my mate said that he hung up feeling that not a single question he had posed the board has been resolved.

Stay tuned.

It's too expensive NOT to sack him. If he continues home crowds will drop by at least 5000. That equates to around 100K per home game in lost revenue. It's more economic to pay him out, along with all his toady hangers on.

didn't smith say in one interview he would only stand aside if he felt he couldn't offer no more to a team........isn't that time about now?????

Co-ordinator??? No thanks, his co-ordination ideas have done enough damage already. Get him out of the club completely otherwise no decent players will come anywhere near us.

If he gets sacked he dont get paid out.

You'll find his contract is performanced based and similar to Jamie Lyon, will not get fully paid out if he doesn't coach. He may get partially reimbursed.

This is why coaches then try to sue for compensation whan they get sacked.

In any case the coaches salary is not covered under the salary cap, so I'm sure there would be a few willing sponsors happy to come to Eels rescue, if they had to find money for a replacement for BS.

I got $10 doing nothing.
