Ivan Cleary One Step Away from the Dragons!!

Put simply, Cleary does not possess the experience (nor, more importantly the influence) to remedy the plethora of issues plaguing the Club.

Previously, I thought the dark days of 1986-1991 would never be revisited.

I was wrong. The current malaise is much, much worse.

I think it makes sense though.

There will be pressure on Mary's replacement, which is a forgone conclusion. Maybe some coaches like Cleary don't back their own ability.

As fans we'd be happy to give them time, get their roster right and not expect immediate success. Instead we are not even back to square one with Mary at the helm.

All what you say is possible. I just think it's more likely the club hasn't even tried to recruit Cleary. Why? Because they won't admit they got it wrong and they wont admit they have chosen two dud coaches in a row. And I don't trust anything the lurker reports.

A few of the 'experts' on social media have latched onto this theory. It's been like the Leilua to the Dogs epidemic that was out of control about 6 weeks ago. Then a few tv & radio commentators fell into it as though it had already happened. It created hysteria on here & other forums.

Brian Smith Please!

How awesome would it be for Smith to come back as coach and FINALLY get that elusive premiership?

Pure fantasy on so many levels, but it was the first thing that went thru my mind when I read this post.

Anyway, enough of the warm fuzzies and back to the cold, depressing facts at hand.

I really don't understand what's going on at board level, it is really insane stuff, No big gun player wants to play under the current coach, apparently Ivan Cleary has rejected the Dragons, there are massive issues and Smithy is a fantastic choice as he knows the game inside out, understands player management, surely with Mark Coyne being there he would know first hand what Smithy could do, I will always remember how Brian Smith was chaired off by his own players!

I like Brian Smith and believe he's an excellent coach. Unfortunately he replaced Craig Young as coach whom was sacked for him. There lies the problem as Young and Doust are ingrained in the place and I'm sure there would be bitterness in that old History. the club needs to move forward and just give the head coaching role to JD with Matthew Elliot as an advisor and piss Mary off all together.

I would have Brian Smith as head coach for a few years , and when ready JD is ready..he take over from him, then appoint Smithy as coaching director maybe.

He does not hold any position within the football club and operations, but is still a board member of the St George Leagues Club....so I believe.
