Canterbury Bulldogs rugby league player Jacob Loko has been charged with high-range drink-driving after he was pulled over by police in Manly early on Friday morning.

Police will allege the 22-year-old returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.189 - nearly four times over the legal limit - when he was stopped on Whistler Street about 1.15am.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said officers stopped a black Nissan Murano after they allegedly saw the vehicle travelling without its headlights on.

Loko, from Belmore, was given a roadside breath-test, which allegedly returned a positive result.

He was then taken to Dee Why Police Station and underwent a breath analysis, which also allegedly came back positive.

The Bulldogs on Friday released a statement confirming it was Loko who had been charged by police and that the NRL had been notified.

"The club finds Loko's actions unacceptable and the incident will be dealt with under the player Code of Conduct and the punishment applied will be completed in consultation with the NRL Integrity Unit," the statement said.

"Loko has been issued with a court appearance notice for Thursday, 26 February. The club will make further comment once Loko has appeared in court."

Loko joined the Bulldogs from Parramatta in July 2014. He played 23 games for the Eels and scored four tries, having made his debut in 2011.

He is yet to play an NRL game for the Bulldogs.

What did Tamou get...$50k fine and a week suspension? Can't recall. Would be similar you'd think though.

Just looked it up, tamou got fined by the nrl, suspended from origin (I think they get 30k a game), and a couple of club games. In lokos favor is he might actually have had a license -tamou didn't

Perhaps Bourbon Bec could do a two page expose' on Loco. Would make a nice change seeing her report on something that she actually has some knowledge on!

Apparently some Ese was trying to get crazy with him, but obviously didn't know who he was.

I wonder if the Bulldogs unwritten 'No dickheads' policy that Greenberg initiated is still enforced at the club.

I don't care how good a player he is or has potential to be, he clearly breached his contract obligations. Put his contract through the shredder!
