Jake Clifford - Nathan Fein 2.0

Have been meaning to post this for a while. Cliff's turned into a worldbeater since he left, despite some promising moments, he was generally bog average for us. Like Fein, deadset ordinary until he signed mid-year to join the Warriors, suddenly lit up the comp as we surged to our first gf and continued to star for his new side.

Until Jake kicked the restart out on the full, hasn't forgotten quite everything we taught him apparently.

Clifford was quite good for North Queensland when given the chance.

He was completely f**ked over by the club and two coaches, and rightfully got out when he could.

Clifford never kicked on for us until he signed with the Knights. I reckon the pressure of filling JT's boots was too big for any talented kid to handle. Hopefully we bring him back to play alongside Tom Dearden when Townsend retires.

Chad's signing has given us the direction we sorely lacked after Thurston's retirement and has brought out the best in Dearden.

We made the preliminary final against Roosters in 2004. Paul Simpkins robbed us at the end. He was the video ref in the 2012 elimination final between us and Manly. The arsehole awarded a try to Manly against us when it was clearly knocked on by Foran.

I'd have Chad over Clifford every day of the week. Besides a somewhat big boot, Clifford doesn't really offer much. Chad has it over him in every other facet of the game. Leadership, game management, premiership rings, passing, looks, defence, the list goes on. It's not a fair comparison.

Clifford's biggest strengths are his running game and towering boot. I think he'll make a good running five - eight.

Major swerve halfway through the script that I am struggling to follow.

I wanted him to succeed with my team as he's a local, but in all honesty, he wouldn't pair well with Dearden as they're both running halves. Hopefully he can develop his passing and organisational skills, but he'll probably always be hot and cold as an organising halfback.

Nah, I meant the reference to Paul Simpkins in 04.

Vee said Fein took us to a GF in 2004. I corrected him by pointing out we lost to Roosters in the Preliminary final in 2004, in a tight game where Simpkins refused to allow us to set a scrum on the Roosters' goalline, despite there being time on the clock. Simpkins was a poor referee and I believe he was biased. The Manly vs NQ game in 2012 was the icing on the cake to prove it.

Long bow to draw in the general NRL thread, but thanks for the explanation.

May I add, as a Knights fan. Glad he is here. 👍

He looks happy at Newcastle. I'm happy for him and hope he reaches his potential. I think he stuttered under Paul Green and was too similar to Michael Morgan to strike up an effective halves duo. His best games at the Cowboys were when Morgan didn't play.

*Premiership Ring. Oh, and send off's, you missed that one, Chad has the upper hand there.

Simpkins f**ked up and should awarded a penalty to NQ...... Walker was in front of Minichello........

I'm convinced that Simpkons was just a biased referee who hated us. Another one who made a history of f**king the Cowboys over was Luke Patten from The Bunker.

Clifford showed promising signs with the Cowboys. Probably lacked some consistency and particularly didn’t suit playing alongside Morgan (too similar?).
