The Warriors are locked in talks with former Bronco James Gavet about returning to the National Rugby League club. The 26-year-old, who has previously played with the Bulldogs and Wests Tigers, was given an early release from his contract in October to seek a move to a new club.
At first the Warriors were hesitant about picking up Gavet, whose career has been hindered by injuries.
While no contract has yet been signed between the Warriors and Gavet, it is understood that talks are advanced.

Gavet ruptured his ACL at training before the Broncos' round three game against the Cowboys in 2015 and needed a knee reconstruction.
For several months the Warriors have been searching for another prop to join their roster, but don't have much room left inside the salary cap. Given Gavet's bad run with injuries over his career, the Warriors may be able to pick him up for a good deal.
Front rowers currently on the books are Jacob Lillyman, Ben Matulino, Ligi Sau, Charlie Grubb, Sam Lisone and Albert Vete.
The recruitment of Gavet would bring about intense competition among the the players to be one of the four props named in the 17 for each game.
If Gavet signs will the Warriors, he will be yet another player brought back to the club they initially let go.

Gavet played for the Warriors' under-20 side in 2009 and advanced to the NSW Cup the following season. In 2011 he was named NSW Cup prop of the season and then signed a deal with the Bulldogs for 2012.

Worth it? I can see an elongated spell for the NSW Warriors only. Would much rather Vete and Lisone TBH.

I would question the accuracy of a report where the author can't even get Charlie Gubb's name right.

Gavet was training with the NSW Cup side pre-Christmas, will be given a trial run with the NRL squad on return to training. Who knows from there.

Which means he will be great value.

He has been let go by a few clubs....but was looking like a beast for the Tigers a while back.

Give us the West Tigers Version of Gavet and he will jump past most of our props as an impact player. Potentially a gem signing if fit and firing. If not then NSW cup it is.

Only Injury has held Gavet back in his career so far.

Er? no. James Gavet has held back his own career. Its pretty well known he has had a poor attitude and that has been his major issue.

I'm a big fan and glad he's back with the club - I really hope he comes good.

ruptured ACL history? No thanks. Never get the same player afterwards.. Would avoid this guy like the plague.

I hope he comes good for you cause there is heaps of potential. One of his injuries while at the Dogs wasn't a game or training injury. He needs to sort that part of himself out too to come good.

Apparently he had a long talk with Bennett before asking for his released and the main motivating factor for it was to be close to his son. Turned down offers from ESL and other NRL clubs to come back to NZ with no guarantee of anything happening after that.

His off field issues have been mentioned quite often by those in the know, and injuries haven't helped. Sounds like he's made a few good decisions for the right reasons and word is he's training the house down to impress.

If....IF....his demons are behind him then he'll add a lot of value to our side whether it's as depth or as part of the NSW Cup side.

He is a very good player..

Oh yeah, I remember watching Jimmy playing U16's and gee whizz he was an exciting young player. Just seems a pity that he hasn't quite gone on with it yet. Still, he's only 26 so he is still learning the trade. I think he will make a difference in that State Cup team.

So the way I read this he'll be second tier, so on minimal $$ and zero salary cap impact unless he plays NRL? Great move then, zero risk for the club, useful NRL experienced depth and a potential huge bargain if he comes good and forces his way into the top side.

Dirt cheap. NRL player. Now in position of being forced to fight hard for a spot.

What's not to like,.

Win win for the Warriors.

Gavet has that mongrel lacking from our pack with ball in hand. An offensive aggressive forward.

Just make sure he has a watch and timekeeping lessons thrown in with his contract.

Could be anything on the pitch, just seems a lot happens off of it for him.

Pretty sure there was a article where he mentioned showing up drunk to a Warriors training in 2011 and Mannering shielded him from the coaches.

Definitely a exciting addition to the squad if he can turn it around.

Given the way Hurrell seems to have been put on notice this year I think they'll be keeping a close eye on that kind of thing.
