The saga is over, but the discussion and fall out will continue on for a while, so thought I'd start a thread to stop the confirmed signings thread from being overtaken by the roberts discussion.

So he's just taking Hodges salary space?

Hodges said he retired because they couldn't afford to keep him and make the re-signings they wanted.

They made those re-signings.

Rich get richer. Can't blame them but wish my club could do the same.

Joke f**king joke

Celery cap

The good old Broncos are back! As soon as Uncle Wayne returns, so do the days of the unlimited salary cap... Andrew Gee come on down with those brown paper bags, no transparency required for a publicly listed company, just ignore the questioning...

Don't be ridiculous, dude. Brisbane players, whilst contracted to the club, are always on ~$250k! It's only when they come off contract that they're suddenly on over $500k and are freeing up a tonne of money for the next run of top-tier recruits. No-one ever gets an upgrade. Actually, I suspect they front-end and downgrade everyones contract every year.

Its a pretty broken system if you support a small market team tbh. Im glad the cowboys finally won one because its tough to rebuild when that generational talent is gone. Take that from raiders and knights fans.

I dont think its a salary cap issue. The broncos are playing by the rules. Just the rules hugely favour them. I mean whatever right. Its a big market team comp

so how many and who gets punted for him?

I heard a rumour that T-Rex will go to England and a big name Broncos forward would go to the Bulldogs. No idea who the forward is and I doubt there is any accuracy to it anyway

Broncos will have to let a player or two go though no doubt. Absolutely no way they would have any salary cap space left for a signing like Roberts - they would have had their roster for 2016 sorted prior to him even leaving the Titans

The next question then would have to be - why should Brisbane be allowed to sign a bloke that takes them over the cap before they have freed the space for him? It puts them in a temporary "over the cap" state, and allows them to sign Roberts above and beyond other clubs that may well actually have cap space for him.

If they're allowed to do that, what's to stop the Broncos or Souths just signing up every decent off-contract player every year, and then spending the off season shipping off the blokes they don't want? It's absurd.

I love how people are saying we're cheating the cap, anyone seen the moves Manly made for next season? They've upgraded like 10 positions whilst being able to keep the $10m wonder child DCE. Amazing salary cap management!

Notable losses: Foran, Ballin, Hiku
Notable gains: Myles, Brown, Walker, Taupau, Lussick, Koroisau

Let's compare that to the Broncos off-season

Notable losses: Hodges, Dodds, Vidot
Notable gains: Roberts

Wow wtf!!!!!! Cheaters!!!!!!
