Roberts honestly looked much better last year. The Broncos have stifled his game.

It would be hard playing outside a primadonna like Milford, and a mentally fragile pussy like Ben Hunt. At the Titans he had a gun in Sezer throwing him long balls, and putting him in space. Hunt and Milford are unable to do that for him.

NSW Origin hopeful James Roberts allegedly involved in drunken incident
by Adrian Proszenko

NSW Origin hopeful James Roberts' career is again at the crossroads after he was allegedly involved in another off-field incident.

Roberts is at the centre of an NRL integrity unit investigation following a drunken night out on Sunday. It's alleged the Brisbane centre was heavily intoxicated at Brisbane's popular watering hole, The Normanby Hotel.

Sources claim that Roberts refused to leave the premises at the request of hotel staff and that security were forced to put him into a "sleeper hold" to restrain him. It's understood ambulances were called to the scene as security staff tried to rouse him. It's claimed that he regained consciousness in an ambulance but refused call it a night and then proceeded to another pub.

The Broncos and the NRL are aware of the incident, although it's unclear whether Roberts will be forced to stand down for Thursday night's match against Canterbury at Suncorp Stadium.

Roberts is one of the most electrifying players in the game and earned Dally M centre of the year honours after a breakout 2015 season with the Gold Coast. However, he has already been sacked by two clubs, Penrith and South Sydney, for off-field misbehaviour and there are concerns he has lapsed into old habits at Red Hill.

The 23 year old left the Titans after he was inadvertently caught up in a contract forgery scandal and there were a number of clubs - including St George Illawarra, Parramatta and South Sydney - that chased his signature when he became a free agent. Brisbane won out, although his erratic performances on and off the field have again jeopardised a promising career.

Tin foil hat time. Is there anybody in the market at the moment that the Broncos would be keen on buying, which would make this an ideal time to offload him?

Dane Gagai. He's not on the market but that won't stop the Broncos. He looks disinterested playing for us (Knights) and woefully out of form, which is understandable playing for us every week, but he's been well below his best this year besides when he's played for the Maroons... Recently there was a rumour floated around that he might ask for a release at the end of this season. Could definitely see it happening if Roberts goes.

JAMES Roberts’ NRL career is in jeopardy after the Broncos centre has allegedly become embroiled in another drunken incident.

The NRL integrity unit has launched an investigation into allegations Roberts abused a female barmaid in a drunken rage at well-known Brisbane establishment The Normanby Hotel.

The Broncos are aware of the alleged alcohol-fuelled altercation and are in dialogue with the NRL integrity unit.

The alleged incident occurred around 9.20pm on Sunday, with Roberts reporting to Brisbane training the following morning just 12 hours later.

Well-placed sources claim a heavily-intoxicated Roberts was “in a mess” during a drinking session at the Normanby on Sunday, two days after Brisbane’s defeat of the Eels at Suncorp Stadium.

It’s been alleged that when Roberts was refused service, he verbally abused the female staffer, prompting Normanby security guards to intervene.

Witnesses said a security guard applied a choker hold to restrain Roberts, who fell into unconsciousness. An ambulance was called to the venue as security guards attempted to resuscitate him.

It’s understood the Broncos centre woke up as the ambulance arrived and that he declined to be treated by paramedics. He then left the pub and hailed a cab.

Roberts trained with the Broncos this morning and is set to take his place in the centres against Canterbury tomorrow, although he may yet be stood down pending a full NRL investigation.

Broncos chief executive Paul White confirmed the club referred the matter to the NRL.

“The Broncos became aware of a rumour involving a player yesterday and reported it to the NRL’s Integrity Commission,” he said.

“No complaint has been made to the club by either the police or a member of the public.

“But as per protocol, the club passed the matter on to the integrity unit and will now work with them to ascertain the facts.”

It is understood police were not called to the scene on Sunday, although Roberts could face NRL sanctions given his chequered history.

The 23-year-old, who recently became a father, has twice been sacked by NRL clubs.

In 2012, Roberts was shown the door by Souths for smashing a taxi window. Two years later, he was released by Penrith after another off-field misdemeanour.

Roberts was controversially signed by Broncos coach Wayne Bennett in December after his contract forgery saga at the Titans.

Brisbane’s welfare officer is aware of the incident and has been working with Roberts, whose form has been inconsistent this season.
