Jamie Lyon announcement Friday?

A lot of rumours going about today (I've heard it from several people who mix in different circles and it's also on redvee, the leading supporters website) about St Helens planning to make an announcement on the pitch on Friday before kick off.

When I heard that I immediately assumed the announcement would be the stadium confirmation, but according to a couple of friends that can't possibly come for a few months as the supermarket deal hasn't been sorted yet. The people who have told me about it are convinced the announcement is about Jamie Lyon's future.

Given the timing and location of the announcement (On the pitch pre-kick off in the derby) it surely has to be good news.

Hopefully not a Wigan fans idea of a joke.

On the radio here this morning was that Lyon's been ringing Parramatta again about returning in 2007. So many different stories going around, it's hard to know what to believe.

Let us know what the announcement is when you get back though.

I'd say Lyon is odds on to return to an Australian club, if only to regain his representative standing after two-three years in the wilderness from the Australian squad?

I'd bet the announcement is ground related...

They reckon he may stay in Super League for one more year because there is no 2007 tri-nations tournament plus they are offering ALOT of money, but I'd be pretty confident in saying Origin is a higher priority for him than International RL and he wouldn't do too badly for money down here anyway.

Edit: Oh and some 'very reliable Saints fans' say he's just bought a new house over there. Take that for what it's worth.. probably not much.

Buying a house over here is a pretty solid investment. He wouldn't need to be in the country to rent it out via an agent, cover the mortgage and have it as a nest egg.

Jamie has never strung Saints along, he has always said he would return home after his 2 years. If he changed his mind, fantastic, if not he returns with everyones best wishes, he has been amazing. His attitude and enthusiasm has been first rate and his performances consistently brilliant.

I feel it will be settled very quickly either way. Saints will need to know well in advance what he is doing so we can keep within the cap or replace him with another world class player if necessary.

There's no news so far, nobody from rlfans knows anything yet and there aren't any news articles about it. Hopefully it means the rumour was false :D.

Saints players all lined up, except one, to give a standing ovation(?) to a world class player......making his 350th appearence for the Saints, Kieron Cunningham.

Saints have made their final offer to Lyon and he will be signing for Manly once it is legal for him to do so. He is only talking to Parra to divert attention away from him talking to Manly.

Nice move, as people are falling for it.

Yeah no announcement of any kind. I think Jamie's future will be sorted very, very soon though.

Saints won't be letting him drag it out as we will need to source a world class replacement.

8 from 8 with the boot today Lyon. About all he had to do really. Too easy again for Saints. Another second gear stroll. We need some tight games to test the team before the Challenge Cup gets to the important stages.

When Lyon leaves next year I'd move Leon Pryce to centre and buy Jamie Rooney from Wakefield to play #6, he will be a sensation in a team like Saints. If not i'd give Scott Moore an extended run.

Well you've been spot on so far tonight buccaneer  so I guess it must be true.

Had you looking though, didn't it?
I think that the only people that weren't talking about an annoucement were Saints themselves.

Saints are still in talks with Jamie, but they HAVE set their max offer. The feeling is that he is trying to push his price up, whether it be for here or Australia. A worry is that it is rumoured that Wigan pay Vaeliki more than Lyon is on (don't all laugh at once), so would they Worriers cut Vaeliki & go for the Lyon King, but then again if he can't get rep footy with the top SL side, then he ain't going to get it by playing NL with the Pies next year.

Think he has a tough decision ahead: stay here where he is enjoying his game and not get rep footy or return home and get that, but risk finding that he can't handle City life again.

No announcement but during the game both Eddie and Stevo announced that Lyon was in talks with Saints about signing a new deal and that he is 'keen' to a sign a new extension.

Mark O Neil (Ex West Tiger player) was also commenting and said that Lyon had improved 'alot' since he's time in the NRL.

Lyon won't stay in Super League his girlfriend hates it over there. She stayed over here for a year before biting the bullet and making the move.

That's worth a read.

You do realise that ir aload of horse sh*t ?

She stayed in Australia for the first 7 months because she was pregnant with their first child. She then shot over and came straight back with Jamie for Pre Season training this year.

Lyon said on the Radio last week that she really enjoys living in St Helens because he's happy and they have lots of friends outside the game in the area they live. He also said that she does miss her family but that's normall for any Australian living away from their parents for the first time.
