Jamie Lyon comments last night

The fact is, a captain of an NRL team called a referee a cheat, face to face and the ref's microphone picked it up so the whole world heard it. The ref then acknowledged that he heard it because he told Lyon to "be careful".

Settle down. It was Monday night football between Souths and Manly - it's doubtful even all of Sydney heard it...

Can't believe only a 'concerning act' notice was issued.

As someone else said, the 'line in the sand' drawn very faintly after the Graham-Klemmer incident last year seems to have been washed away too easily.

Should certainly have been given 10 in the bin at the time.

Doubtful whether the MRC could or should have given him a stint on the sideline but he should certainly have copped a fine.

As I said earlier, if he says something similar in the post match press conference 20 minutes later he would certainly have been fined at least $10k. Why should comments on field be treated differently? If anything, the penalty on field should be harsher than if the same comments are made during the press conference.

At least if something is said in the presser it has no bearing on the result of the game. Jamies comments the other night almost certainly had the referee second guessing himself and almost certainly led to a soft penalty for Manly a few minutes later.

Agree with most previous posters comments, but if a ref is influenced by this , then he is reffing the wrong grade.

Considering the clubs most of you support and the captains you have, it is very much glass houses here. Lyon does like a bitch, but no more then Smith, JT, Ennis or Graham. He is an angel compared to that bunch.

The two forward passes missed in that game alone warrant a comment of some kinds. He stepped over and got a warning. What have these other merkin's got ever?

None of the captains you mentioned - off the top of my head anyway - have alleged corruption directly to the referee.

I'm not debating the merits of who's a grubbier or ruder captain, that's not the discussion to be had. What Lyon made was a serious allegation, not just yelling at a ref (which is in itself another stupid thing to do).

But while you're asking "what have these other merkin's got ever?", Graham copped a suspension last year that combined his late tackle on Adam Reynolds and a contrary conduct charge.

That was the 'line in the sand' moment we heard so much about, but instead this week Lyon got slapped with a lettuce leaf when he should be sitting Sunday's game out.

It is amazing you believe your own BS. You know there was a huge difference between what Klemmer and Graham combined did. One throw away line does even compare you twit. And you bloody well know it too.

Graham and Klemmer went over the top in disputing a decision and got contrary conduct charges that were quite warranted.

You're right there's a huge difference. Lyon accused the officials of manipulating the match. Directly. He should not be playing this weekend, end of story.

Yelled at the ref?? Please.

What an intimidating rant he went on. Far worse than Graham and Klemmer.

Move along.

That we lost our 7th game in a row because of a bad decision?

c'mon man. ease up with the exaggeration. souths were the worse side for the majority of that game, and there was no guarantee that they would have won the match had the try been awarded.

as a supporter, i know that souths need to do more than have a bunker decision go their way to be a a team that can win. they need to improve across the board and for the whole game.

Intimidation, threaten, accuse.

If you do any of these to a ref, that is a contrary conduct matter and should cop a 5 week suspension.

That shit should never be tolerated and should be punnished very heavily.

Why is that relevant? When the others whine like bitches, we'll create a thread about them. At the moment, it's Jamie Lyon. And what he said, based on what plenty of people feel and what the NRL have previously said they are going to stand up for, has had him slapped with a wet bus ticket.

Or by your rationale, anyone who calls a ref something less offensive than Andrew Johns labelling a touch judge a f**king merkin can expect to get off scot free.

It's funny how players get all sooky when the media write things about their performances, but a lot of them are quite happy to lay the boot into referees. As we all knows, refs aren't perfect and often inept but they're entitled to their job without abuse and accusations of favouritism. How do we hope to recruit decent people to referee rugby league when they get ass hats like Jamie Lyon accusing them of cheating and rampant abuse week in, week out?

I preferred your original post.

Anyway, I'm still trying to understand how accusing the ref of cheating is not as bad as what Graham or Klemmer did.

It's alleging corruption. A concerning act notice is not nearly enough.

No my point was a dud bunker decision doesnt change the fact we were shit for the previous 6 games. Right or wrong we as a club cant hide behind a howler from the bunker because that decision may have lost us the match and effectively our finals chances
