On the Ten news, Tony Peters reported that Jamie Lyon has been given "indefinite leave for personal reasons" :?:

Not what they need after the flogging last week...

Cheers,
Ben S.

Lyon granted leave

15 March 2004

The Parramatta National Rugby League Club wishes to advise that Player Jamie Lyon has been granted leave to attend to personal issues.

“Jamie and his manager came to see me as well as other management this morning, and I was happy to give him some time to sort out his personal issues. At this stage we are uncertain how long that will be,” Eels coach Brian Smith said.

“Jamie has been with the Club since he was 15 and has an impeccable record on and off the field. He is well regarded by everyone at our Club and we all respect his wishes during this time,” Smith added.

The 22 year old has played 70 First Grade matches for Parramatta, and has represented Country, New South Wales and Australia.

From nrl.com

Not good news for the Eels. He may have played ordinary at the weekend but he is still, in my opinion, their best player. He will be missed, and it sounds like it could be a while

He is gooooooooooorrrrrrrrn

2Ue just announced via Andrew Voss that he has RETIRED.

Apparently sick of the demands of NRL, sick of Sydney.

Also the words "I'm not changing my mind" came up in Vossys report

Apparently parra are keeping it quiet but Voss is sure that he has retired

Channel 9 also seem to think that he has retired, saying that his career could be over and he wants to return home to Wee Wah (spelling?)

Bad news for the Eels.

God I hope so!!!

As long as he's with Ryde-Eastwood he's an outside chance of playing for Balmain :(

I'll bet he shows up at the Roosters in a couple of weeks and plays for free...

As soon as his contract at Parramatta expires Lyons will conveniently re-sign with another NRL club. Nothing is surer.

I wonder - he seems like a pretty genuine character to me. If he says he's sick of the lifestyle, then why should we not believe him??

I guess the Roosters need a quality centre to go with Hodges!

Ryan Cross is a great player and he will play for NSW and Australia in 2004. As far as Lyons goes, I'd say that he wants a change of scenery and I'm sure he will be playing at another NRL club some time in the future. He is only 22.

Ryan Cross --> Great????

Let's be blunt here Cogburn, there is but one great player in the Roosters team, Brad Fittler.

As far as other "great" current players go - there are not many - Lockyer, Webcke, Tallis, Johns - I might be being unfair, but nobody else elaps to mind.

Great is a tag bandied around too freely. Even using a very elastic definition, Ryan Cross doesn't qualify, and almost certainly never will!!

He will miss it too much. The money and the good times. Just wait until he has to bust his ar$e for 40 hour weeks just to earn $500. He'll be back! hahahaha
