Take your point.

I guess it depends if you rank their skills equally.

Although I definitely consider Hodges a great centre, I personally don't think his skills rank up there with Lyon's, nor his importance to his team.

But hey, opinions are like arseholes!

It takes nothing away from his talent and ability and the brilliance he can produce every time he steps on the field but if we are talking careers and legacies and all that business the rep stuff comes into play. And yeah even for mine Hodges and Lyon is like splitting hairs.

Matai has been better than this plodder.

Also, LOL at the Roosters fan who said Jennings.
I only said Jennings after someone mentioned him being in the same class as Hodges. I also said he was a distant fourth. Although he has won a premiership, an Origin, has a higher strike rate then all of them and his defence is just as good.

He's at least better then Catai.

Yeah gotta agree with this.

Hodges constantly doing it in the rep arena helps him just shade Lyon imo.

f**k imagine if we had both playing for Australia for the past 8 or so years.

Good points.

But to me, it comes down to this. You have to win this weekend to make the finals. Lose and you're out. Who do you want in your team - Lyon or Hodges?

For me, it's Lyon.

I would have said the same thing at any stage of their careers, and certainly this weekend.

Great club player.

Weak of constitution, and will always have a cloud over him for his dogging of Parra and his State.

Dogging Parra only helps his likability really, and sure as shit helps his achievements over the years.

Poor old Hayne stuck with Parra so long he was forced to quit the sport to feel good about himself again.

Lyon is absolute class. Total package. No weaknesses and extremely skilled.

Not too concerned about the Hodges v Lyon debate, both are so good and easily the best two centres of the 2000's. They are 1a and 1b in no particular order IMO

I was about to say, it seems like Gasnier can't get a run anymore. Despite never living up to the praise from certain circles, Gaz was still a supreme talent with a highlights reel that was every bit as good as Lyon's and Hodges. In fact, you could easily make the argument that at their (Hodges and Gasnier) peaks (2006), Gasnier was the better player.

On Lyon, what impresses me most is just as it appeared he was slowing down and been figured out, he comes out against Brisbane and puts on one of, if not the best performance of any centre this season. Like Smith, he doesn't really look like much but some of the passes, kicks, foot-work he's able to put on is too much.

For mine, he's the ultimate team player and judging from the anecdote Hindmarsh shared, a really good influence on those around him.

While he's absolutely destroyed my team on occasions, he's a pleasure to watch and richly deserves any praise that comes his way.

I think Ganiers second stint hurt his overall standing as people seem to remember him as only that player but yeah he definitely belongs in the conversation with the other two.

Gasnier was a gun and on his day every bit as good as them, but on the basis of consistency, i dont think he is on their level.

Lyon and Hodges in a class of their own imo

From what I have heard previously, his walking away from Parramatta was justified and I would have done the same if I was him

The thing about Lyon over the years is he just doesn't make mistakes... apart from missing kicks at goal.... From memory he threw 2 intercept passes in 1 game V the Panthers last year... I reckon apart from those 2 you'd be hard pressed to find another handful in his NRL career.... The man is a professional is every sense.

If he was a character on Arrested Development, he'd be this guy;
