Would the ARU be smart to go after this guy? Im no Union fan so maybe im way off, but i would've thought his tactical kicking game would make him a hit in the code. Stick him at scrum half or fly half and he could be pretty good.

I think Soward could own Union, his game very much suits it as you mentioned
so you'd think that he'd been on their radar

The ARU currently have a surplus of good players in that sort of position. No need to sign him.

The ARU only ever seem to poach players from league who have zero kicking ability. Considering the game involves so much kicking, I find this

Perhaps it is a concession by the ARU that just kicking the ball all the time is not entertaining.

IMHO if I were the ARU and I was looking at a League player, I'd be going hell for leather after Hazem ElMasri. Probably too late now but two or three years ago he'd have been enormous for Union. He'd be worth 20 - 30 points every game in Union easily.

The last thing rugby needs is more goal kickers. You are right about the general kicking ability though - it is necessary to play high level rugby. In league with the structured plays the kicking can be handled by one or two players, in rugby it is an essential skill for each back. Matt Rogers could handle it and Lote has a decent boot on him when he gets time to line it all up - but other high profile signings - Cross, Sailor, Tahu - no idea.
