We'll take Michael Hagan, so long as he picks the team from the following players:

1. Lachlan Coote (Rhys Wesser, Jarrod Sammut, Michael Gordon)
2. Michael Gordon
3. Michael Jennings
4. Luke Lewis (Brad Tighe, Maurice Blair)
5. Brad Tighe (Junior Tia Klifi, Rhys Wesser, Geoff Daniela, Luke Rooney)
6. Jarrod Sammut (Maurice Blair, Luke Lewis, Masada Iosefa)
7. Wade Graham
8. Tony Puletua (Matt Bell, Junior Moors, Tim Grant)
9. Luke Priddis (Masada Iosefa)
10. Petero Civoniceva
11. Frank Pritchard
12. Trent Waterhouse
13. Maurice Blair (Luke Lewis, Nathan Smith)

14. Masada Iosefa (Maurice Blair, Luke Lewis, Paul Aiton)
15. Junior Moors (Adam Woolnough, Tim Grant)
16. Joseph Paulo (Shane Rodney, Daniel Panese)
17. Matt Bell (Adam Woolnough, Tim Grant)

And he follows these Terms and Conditions:
-Luke Lewis can not play halfback unless the halves get injured during the game
-Brendan Worth and Mark O'Halloran can NEVER play first grade football
-Nathan Smith should not be in the top 17 players - and should be behind Lewis and Blair for lock

There are possibly others, but these are the main details for now.

. well some great news on jarrod. His mum has stated he is contracted till 2010 and has no plans to go anywhere.Jarrod is happy at penrith. This is great news for our club .We need more players who can play what they see in front of then instead of just 1 pass run 1 pass run no matter what

Arguing over who is worse between Simmons and Elliot is a waste of time. Both were/are terrible and shouldn't have been given the years they have been gifted at the helm of our talent.

Royce was a club legend but a terrible coach. The fact Lang could turn it around in two years is testament to this.

Any news on the Elliot situation? Elliot obviously has it in for Sammut so someone elsewhere within the club is telling Sammut he still has a future. I'm taking this to mean Elliot doesn't.

Well if you believe whta Murray said yesterday about certain board members not being happy with Elliott you would assume it's just a case of waiting for his contract to finish. Still that's a bloody long wait.

Management should have only given Matt Elliott a two year contract, with the option for a third, based on performances. And I believe it should be the case for any coach. I'll echo the thoughts of previous posters and say that the club will never go forward with Elliott at the helm.

Just another thing - the thread is at five pages with several mentions of Elliott, and not one Raiders fan has had their say yet. Mind you, it's not tagged and his name is not in the thread, so maybe nothing will happen. Let's just wait and see...

Personally, I think Simmons was a better coach than Elliott. Sure, our defense was crap, but at least we had some flair in attack, and weren't blunted with mystifying set plays.

not that it means anything but i am sure Alexander was quoted as saying somewhere he had spoken to sammut.Certain members of the board are feeling the heat.Col Bently leaving then nailing them started then sweating.I am loving it.

Exactly. There is no point arguing who is the worse coach. Different team, different environment, different problems.
The fact is Lang was brought in before the last crop of juniors went to sh*t. And the fact remains, unless someone else is brought in for next year, we could very well waste this crop of juniors.

I hate to see us fail, but I agree, a 7-12 finish would probably be considered quite a good result and Elliott would survive another year. Hopefully mob your are right and their are rumblings of discontent behind the scenes.

i think the main thing is jarrod is staying.I just think he has a lot to offer a team that is so predictable in there play. The last few weeks our`defence has been reasonable its the attack in the second half that does not exist.

During Roycie's time, we made the finals twice, making it though to the 2nd week of the finals BOTH TIMES. 1997 - won week 1, lost week 2. 2000 - lost weeks 1 and 2.
The talent Royce had available that you mentioned, ONLY GOWER AND GIRDLER played a parrt of those finals.
As for Langy being nice to Roycie when mentioning the 2003 GF win, well, lets see, HOW MANY PLAYERS WERE DIFFERENT FROM THE WOODEN SPOON YEAR OF 2001 and the following year 2002 (Langy's first) to the 2003 Premiers - NOT MANY, Royce was responsible for bringing most of that squad together. Langy was appointed after the season when Royce was sacked and the only player he brought to the club for 2003 that played in the GF was the one and only PRESTON CAMPBELL - so how is what Langy said, simply being nice to Royce? What Langy said was fact.

didnt he bring over martin lang as well? also when I was checking that I notcied that langys only 32 now, he retired really young then, like at the age of 27/28 or so, I dont think I realsied his age at the time, was there some injury troubles for him or something? I cant remember...and matt eliot is the worst in my opinion because of his refusal to pick players in their best positions and refusing to pick the clubs best 17...then seeing the lack of results and continuing to do it

Lang is awesome, I am looking forward to meeting him later this year if I can.

Having said that, I agree that Marty Lang was a key player due to all of his go-forward.

Sorely missed after retirement and from the game generally.

Marty Lang was forced into early retirement because of recurring ankle injuries. A great loos to us.

i think marty also retired there was a lot of concern about the amount of concussions he got.And on top of that winning the grand final as marty said its not going to get better than that go out on top

With Lang, every hit up was almost like a kamikaze mission. He left a massive hole in our foward pack when he retired.

I've heard his new career as a male model is going very well.

I think most of the current crop of juniours are a) young enough and b) talented enough that another year of elliott wouldn't kill their careers. Sure it wouldn't be ideal but I don't think it's quite as dire as you suggest.

Hi PK
With the talent Royce had available ie:Greg Alexander, Steve Carter, John Cartwright, Brad Izzard, Brad Fittler (Till Super League), Matt Sing, Ryan Girdler, Craig Gower etc. He could only get us to the finals once and we were the 1st team beaten on that occasion. With John Lang acknowledging Royce I think he was being kind to Royce.

LOL sorry Bob, I didnt mean to turn this into a Elliott vs Lang discussion thread. Oh dear what have we done! :sarcasm:

I just wanted to know your reasons, he didnt have those players all at the same time over all of his years coaching at Penrith, to be fair.

I liked Langy he was humble. I also thought Royce was humble.

I didnt like the way Royce or Lang was moved on but I do believe it was time for a new direction in both cases. Lang was a great choice, Elliott, I'm not so sure - I just can't get my head around his way of coaching.
I really don't like being critical, they put in a lot of time and I'm not there 24/7 to see what's going on. But... I don't like what I'm seeing and what I'm reading.

Pk just to add a extra few point on Royce Simmons and why he is considered our worst coach

1. 10 years as coach delivered a few wooden spoons
2.he says if he had the players lang did he would have won.The junours where always there and have been there during his 10 years. He just did not see them.
3.We had one of the worst defensive teams during his time and even now at the tigers his job is defensive coach and they cant tackle
3.The fact of if it is right or wrong is irrelevant .The players had a mutiny against him. They had enough

I read in this very topic a poster had said "that was the biggest lot of dribble they had ever read" ... I think Murray you may have topped that.

1. What are you on?
2. Lang didnt use those players a lot until 2003. Even he was reluctant to bring them in 2002. God almighty I remember on the official site this one poster who use to criticise Lang for not using them.
3. We were given the tag of the worst defensive team in 2003 and we still won!
3/4. ( i think you mean 4 but I think you are definately smoking some of that funny stuff )
I disagree, the media reported something along those lines but from all reports I read Adamson had the biggest drama, maybe Girds and Gowie (I assume since these two were also named in some reports that these are the players you are referring too?) were just asked if they would support a move for a new coach? We don't know how it went down, and maybe someone could put up a couple of media reports on it to refresh our memories, but Girds and Gowie at that time were our biggest market players and from my fading memory they both renewed their contracts earlier that year with Royce being a factor in their renewals. It would be common sense to ask how they would feel from my perspective.
Can anyone confirm this?

I'm not in the habit of changing peoples names in quotes murray or are you saying you didnt write all that?

Or maybe you are thinking that I suggested you were the one that said about the dribble? No that was LeagueLegend on Mish. ;-) There seems to be something going on there between the sheets between them two that I am unware of.

ha ha mish may be forced to attend a penrith game again.I have not given up hope of getting her to see the light and bring her back from the darkness of tigeritis.
Just so you understand where i am coming from with royce before you hammer me.I was involved at a junior level with the club so seen first hand what went on.And have seen elliott first hand there is a massive difference in everything.Elliott is better .
Now back on subject of this thread it is a anti climax .Jarrods mum has stated he will be staying at penrith is happy at penrith. There is no better sourse than his mum
