He'll be 29 at end of his contract. You think it's too long or he's no good ?
Both. I think he's very over-rated, and four years is too long to carry an under-performer (which I predict he will be).

If Hayne is too slow for fullback, he's too slow for the wing imoJust curious, Gazza, why you think that. My thinking is that we don't have a decent fullback (Hayne too slow, French not first grade standard, Gutherson a centre only, Norman okay but maybe too slow and maybe better suited to five-eight). I know wing is an important position and Ferguson is a tremendous winger; but a lack of fullback options worries me. And I think Ferguson would be better than anyone we've got. I'd actually prefer Fergo at fullback and Hayne on the wing.

If it's wing then I'd prefer to give Sivo an opportunity.I think he's suited to the wing because he seems to be able to roam from that position. He simply doesn't have the speed or 80 minute energy to play fullback anymore.
We should tell him we'll pay him 500K next year and the make up the difference in 2021....call it, oh I dunno, what's the opposite of a front loaded deal?? A 'back door deal' ... Or 'rear ended package' .... Something like that.... Must be some clubs out there doing similar for some of their players....My impression is we kept 500k spare for him and he is asking for more. The eels perhaps happy to give a little more but can't unless release. However I feel like we still wont pay what he is asking.
We have signed two players on $500k+ since Hayne decided to wait until October to negotiate for a contract starting in November.Yeah, but it would make sense that if we paid Norman $740k and The Plane $500k in 2018, then the pay rise that The Plane might want (to say $700k) is sitting with Norman's back ended deal...
Junior Paulo on a four year deal is a diabolical mistake.
Outside of people on here, there is a real issue with the general fans who can't understand why JH isn't signed. Under Bernie we get no guidance except poor news. He has had 2 years to assist in getting things in shape, if he continues to say he wants JH, then why wasn't that part of shaping the cap and roster. He has disappointed across a number of fronts, without Uncle Nick he is a little weaker in performance than expcted.
I take your point Ivor and fullback may well be an issue for us next year. Moving a guy who proved in 2019 that he could provide exactly what we lacked this year would be a mistake in my opinion. We needed to strengthen wing and we did that with Fergo.Just curious, Gazza, why you think that. there are a few unhappy chappys on Facebook who are saying that if we dont re-sign Hayne they will be handing in the memberships and/or season tickets
Great. Maybe I get to see a few games on the cheap. Please let me know if you see any tickets up for sale.there are a few unhappy chappys on Facebook who are saying that if we dont re-sign Hayne they will be handing in the memberships and/or season tickets
f**k those idiots. They're the reason we have an entirely brand new management every three years. I can't believe we've had coaching continuity for five years now. Probably because Max decided the smart move was to stop listening to them.Again, not the issue. Our situation should allow us to sign who we did and still get JH. The CEO explains nothing and that adds to the problem with his ongoing mantra that he wants JH at the club. That should have seen an attempt to structure the cap , nobody here is a cap genius but surely there were conversations going on behind the scenes. It's been poorly handled like a number of things.
Don't underestimate the fans outside of these forums and their anger should JH sign elsewhere if we aren't organised enough to sign him. I am prepared to take the view that supporters expected JH to grace the new stadium in our colours, and are not happy. Wouldn't be surprised if there is a backlash on memberships to be honest .

But I’m sure you’ll cheer him on all the same and not completely write him off before even running out on training paddock for his new contractBoth. I think he's very over-rated, and four years is too long to carry an under-performer (which I predict he will be).
Impressive insight! How do you do it?Or a masterstroke.
From my experience props play best and most consistent footy ages
25,26,27,28 ( Years Jnr will be under contract )
29,30,31 they slow down but can still be elite.

Let them go. They are Hayne fans. Not Eels fans. I'll happily piss on them while they hand their (they're probably for these chaps) badges back, though they'd probably open up and drink it. Then again, I'd probably have to drive 270kms and join the club or at least sign in as a member.
I'd say you'd soon be barred from your newly membership if you pissed on another member in the club.
