I just read the first however many pages of this thread. Most people were sad, some angry. What was interesting were the few people saying he is no chance of making it because all NFL players were freaks.
What was also interesting were people saying we'd be better off without Hayne. I'm yet to see it.
I always thought he was going to make it, and have never said otherwise. The fact that he is even getting a run in the pre-season games is a huge accomplishment, and from what little I've seen of him in the training camp, he should make the roster. It all hangs on how he goes in his first pre-season game this weekend.
The thing about us being better off without him is a long term thing. He was such a strong force in the team, that the rest of the team didn't need to work as hard to fill up the skill gap between Parra and the other teams, him leaving widens that gap, requiring us to fill that by the rest of the squad upping their games to "make up the difference". Not something that can happen right away, but in the long run, they'll be a stronger team for not having him to make up for the short comings of the rest of the team.
It'll take a while, but they'll get there. It was going to happen eventually, may as well have happened now as any other time.
The real sucky thing is now I have to follow two NFL teams.. thankfully they are in different conferences so I don't have to cheer against Hayne (unless a miracle happens and the 49'ers and the Colts meet in the Superbowl, but hey, that's highly unlikely to happen, and if by some change it does, the Colts will smash them.)
