But mate - it is cap management and hopeless club governance that forces us to sign and play plodders like this.

It's not irrelevant to the thread.

This is why we have a lot of sub par players running around - constantly behind the eight ball because each year management mortgage the farm to impress fans and consolidate their power.

I hear this a lot, can I ask, what power?

I'm not defending them, I honestly don't understand the idea that these guys have power over anything? For real, I can't wrap my head around how being on the board of an NRL team has any power to it at all, power over the team I suppose, yeah.. but is that what we're talking about?

If so, holy crap..

You seem to be focused on who's fault it is. Fine do that and insert all the  emoticons you like.

Bottom line is that we have a contract that disadvantages the club and you would expect the Board to take steps to rectify the problem.

Let's be serious here - do you don't want the club to "do the right thing" ? Or do you want the club to renegotiate the deal to achieve an acceptable outcome for the club ?
You seem focused on deflection, and the worrying thing Is the board don't want to seem to learn from their mistakes promoting another yes man as CEO instead of headhunting a top of the line CEO.

Agreed, it's not the NRL's fault, or Hoppa and his managements fault. It's the idiot who offered that sort of money and the idiots who hired the bloke and let him do as he pleased.

the NRL can't say we have to pay some ludicrous amount to Hoppa when we haven't even submitted a contract to them

ffs... I wasn't quoting you.

Either they knew, or they didn't.

I'm asking which you believe. Not quoting you verbatim.

So you're saying they didn't know, but are pushing blame? but if they didn't know, why are they to blame? why would they need to push blame if they didn't it was going on?

It has to be one or the other. Either they knew, and did nothing, or they didn't know.

p.s. you DID say that one, right up there in the quote in my post.
They are either lying or incompetent take your pick.

Agreed, They really need to take time and recruit a proper CEO, someone who's already been a CEO of a somewhat large company, with a proven track record.

Preferably someone who has no association to anyone involved with the club, or it's boards, past and present.

Previous involvement in Sports Administration would be a plus, though..

That's a tough shopping list. We'll be hard pressed finding one on the open job market.

I see you omitted to deal with the issue again. Let's get the Board CEO thing out of the way. Yes it's a mess and yes head(s) should roll. Let's insert a bunch of these as well  :crazy:  .

Now about this, what should we do about Hoppa ?

hey hey hey, now that's a little too close to topic...

careful now..

but yeah, as long as we're not paying overs, and the cap permits, I'm happy for him to stay, as long as he lifts his game a little.

No. You finished by saying 'that's the situation as you're putting it forward'.

I'm saying that I have not put that situation forward. You seem to be putting other people's words in my mouth.

I don't think the Board did know about the offers being made by Seward (but I obviously don't know what the case is). I believe that they should have known.

So you're saying they didn't know, but are pushing blame? but if they didn't know, why are they to blame? why would they need to push blame if they didn't it was going on?

Because they are responsible for instituting and following a set of governance procedures that allow them to monitor the key strategic decisions taken by the CEO.

It has to be one or the other. Either they knew, and did nothing, or they didn't know.

It's not that simple. As above, I don't think they knew what Seward was (apparently) doing at the time he (apparently) initially acted. At some point thereafter, they obviously found out. Again, my point is that procedures should be in place such that the Board become aware of these events in a more timely fashion.

p.s. you DID say that one, right up there in the quote in my post.

Sorry, I don't have any idea what you mean by the 'you DID say that one'......what one? (serious question).

From the sounds Hoppa and management signed or agreed to a contract in good faith. Now we are changing the deal, my point was none of this is Hoppa's or his managements fault. Everyone seems to blame everyone else but our club and management.

Sure I want what's best for the club but no matter hat happens it's hardly a good look for a club and future playing signings is it???

And the only one filling the page with smilies is you champ.

I said that the have been incompetent, and that they may have tried to push as much of the blame onto Seward as possible. That's it.

you suggest they were incompetent (didn't know) then may have shoved blame (did know)

If they did know, shoving blame make sense, if they didn't know, he WAS to blame, hence no need to shove, do you follow my logic?

I've already said, that I choose to believe they're incompetent, cause it better then them lying.

I'm asking what your opinion is..
well either doesn't paint them in a good light, I'd hope they are just incompetent but either is worrying. This board seem to have their hearts in the right place and aren't the slimy shonks of the past. Doesn't mean they can't lift their game and people having a sook when legitimate questions are asked of them. And that last line wasn't directed at you.

'may have' = 'it is possible', not 'they definitely have'

Ok, I see what you are trying to say in the 2nd sentence. I just disagree with the the conclusion. That is 'if they didn't know' (which is quite possible) + 'he WAS to blame' (quite possible) doesn't lead to 'no need to shove'.

'he WAS to blame' is not the same as 'only he WAS to blame'.

My argument is that the Board presided over a system that (potentially) facilitated whatever it is that the CEO got up to (if anything). Their failing relates to either the lack of proper process, or the lack of control over the process exercised. And in that respect, they may have an incentive to push as much responsibility onto the bloke who is no longer there as they can.

Have a good one.

Fair point. I've always agreed they deserve to share the responsibility, as they are ultimately in charge, so appointing Seward is the granddaddy mistake, spawning all subsequent mistakes.

So yeah, but my thinking is, dumb, yeah, devious, no..

So because you refuse to believe media stories you don't like, you just make a figure up in your own head and believe that.

No that would be your interpretation chuckles.

The figure I have been given by those associated with the club is no where near that.

Did anyone read the Brian Smith article, where he said that the success of the Rorters starts at the identification of junior talent that other clubs have and some players that need to be exposed to NSW cup on a regular basis

Said that the best move made at the Rorters was the recruitment person ( ex Melbourne guy whose name escapes me for some reason)

Said he brought the likes of JWH, Cordner , RTS and Pearce , and the likes of Moa and Tupou that have cost them less as they were in the system. Suggesting that gave them room to sign the SBW, Maloney and Ferguson to fill holes that would improve the club

The departed Crusher and Nolan said that you have to sign the best juniors out there and fill around them . Get them to the club and that is the key, of course the Rorters may have better TPAs etc .

So , do we rely too much on our local juniors, etc.. He also said that he had little idea of the cap as that was dealt with by the CEO and the recruitment officers

Thinking about the success at the Rorters and Bronocs, seems a decent article - just putting it out there

their recruitment officer should have banned for life as he was part of the Storm salary cap drama

Absolutely- no argument, but they recognised what he was able to achieve and said f**k the politics of it all, ge him here and deal with it later

Certainly his actions turned them around, unfortunately . As I mentioned before they paid Pearce apparently 3 times more than any other club as willing to, that was even before him , so he has kept it going and betters y the look of it
