I think its the worst start to a season by an Eels coach in living memory. At least in my time. Let me pose this hypothetical question seeing that we are now favourites for the spoon. If we fail to win a game this season, does he survive?

Hopefully our pro active board have put in clauses to safe guard the contract going for 4 years if we are failing miserably

Even after only two games, I can't see him lasting 4 years depending on the termination clauses in his contract. These are not normal losses, they are catastrophic (especially today's). The bean counters and management will decide the breakeven point between a financial cost and fan anger but it will be before 2028.

He has brought this on himself with getting rid of RCG and Gutho (two players he knew would stand up to him) and then playing too many rookies at once. Bring them in slowly with the experienced guys and rotate them. But that would take balls explaining it to the rookies.

Gutho would be handy now if we could arrange a deal to piss Brown off. RCG was the 'steel' in our pack despite his other issues. We don't have anyone you could call an 'enforcer'.

Two players he knew would stand up to him?

What?

I think he needs to bring in a leader from another team especially since Gutho left...

We don't have one at the moment especially with Moey out.

You look who the baldy brought in when he took over at the sharks.. Finucane

Who Gus brought in at the Dogs in Chrighton

It's not that they are good players they came from teams with good work ethics they did the hard work and the rest of the players followed..
It would've been handy to replace the 400 Plus games of NRL experience from 2 of the players who walked out the door in the off season.

It’s seems crazy to question a coach after two games however it’s been a diabolical start.

He’s come into do a job and with that you need to make some hard decisions. I’m naturally a pessimist (a lifetime of supporting this mob does it to you) but I honestly thought we would at least be competitive and be in the conversation of making finals this season. You can only call it off what we have dished up these first two games and it’s been deplorable.

Once again we are only two games in but it would take a miracle for him to turn this around already, it’s been THAT bad.

Agree with your post..

Ryles has said all the right things since coming onboard as well as introducing new coaching appointments..
Getting the players to buy into Parramatta itself seemed like a great idea but I have doubts that some of the players are buying into his ways...

You can see by the effort in defense that the players are not there..

Not just defense but in attack, no communication, no urgency. I feel like some players dont give a sh1t.

Deserves his own thread....

What success will he bring?

Will he last the 4 year deal?

The Parramatta Eels are delighted to announce the appointment of Jason Ryles as the Club's new Head Coach for the next four seasons from 2025 onwards.

Ryles will join the Eels from his current club, the Melbourne Storm.

After a long and successful career as a player where he represented both NSW and Australia, Ryles began his coaching career in 2014. During his coaching career, Ryles has been an Assistant Coach with the Melbourne Storm between 2016 and 2020, which included 4 grand finals and 2 premiership wins, an Assistant Coach with the England Rugby team between 2020 and 2021, an Assistant Coach with the Sydney Roosters between 2022 and 2023, before returning to the Storm in 2024.

Ryles is considered one of the best emerging coaches in the game and brings a wealth of experience in winning environments and high performance cultures to the Eels, while also having been mentored by two of the most respected and successful coaches in the game in Craig Bellamy and Trent Robinson.

"We are delighted to welcome Jason to the Parramatta Eels", said Eels Chairman Sean McElduff.

"Jason's proven track record in winning environments, combined with his passion for developing young talent perfectly aligns with the direction we are taking our Club. We have a strong NRL roster and a group of exciting young players coming through our pathways programs. We believe Jason is the ideal person to build a strong connection within the playing group, across the Club and with the passionate Parramatta Eels fanbase."

"We are entering a new era for our football program, and we’re thrilled to secure someone of Jason’s calibre as the leader of our NRL team moving forward. He is highly regarded as a coach and we believe that he has a huge future in the NRL. We are confident that under Jason’s leadership, our Club will be challenging for premierships in the years to come." said Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos.

Ryles expressed his delight about joining the Club.

"I am incredibly honoured to be appointed Head Coach of the Parramatta Eels," he said.

"This is a Club with a rich history and a passionate fanbase. I look forward to coaching these young men."

Out of respect for Jason’s current coaching commitments with the Storm, we will not be making any further comment until he completes his duties with the Storm and joins the Eels later this year.

heard the same shit about Kearney when he arrived. The guy was touted as the next jack gibson, and now we have his protégée. The team looks so underprepared it brought a tear to Michael Hagan’s eyes.

On the way home heard Luke Lewis on the ABC, he basically said how do the experienc3d players allow what we saw here. No support in tackles, no work in the ruck , basically poor support play. Said inexperienced in one thing, but leadership from the so called leaders wasn’t on display.

Referenced the Roosters and the way their experienced players put their heads down and led for the younger players to follow. Junior was very poor again today, what to do when he’s on a massive salary with another year to run in 2026.

A little thing I noticed in the stats was dummies. I believe we only threw 3 dummies all game. That’s a coaching issue, all players no how to do it, that tells me he is limiting the players to be as vanilla as possible, exactly what happened under Kearney. The last two weeks is all coaching. I don’t buy excuses of new team and new player crap, they looked like they haven’t done a skills session in 8 months.

Sam T looked more of a leader out there than any other forward...

The experienced players seem to just give up..

No, did'nt you hear we were doing ballwork earlier than ever before. Does'nt look like it so far and we definitely were'nt doing any defence work either. So we must have concentrated on fitness, no not that either. So what were we doing?

What have Brown, Moa, Wisemantel and Gasnier(?) been doing with this rabble?

Look I reckon Ryles right now is stuck in the middle he has made some big changes but in reality he still has a shit tonne deadwood to get rid off.

Like let's be honest our whole forward pack needs to be blown up you need more then 1 off season to do that.

Ryles made the call early Gutho was surplus to needs yes he had a contract and I suppose as a parra fan you have every right to be pissed off he didn't at least stick it out as a leader when challenged by the new coach.

But Ryles made the brutal call

Would Gutho at 6 and Drown at 7 today won us today probably not.

Gutho isn't exactly killing it at the Dragons either

But if there was 1 player Ryles could ill afford to lose in this whole reshape he was undertaking it was Mitchell Moses

He was the voice, heart beat and the sole leader of this team once Ryles made the call to move Gutho on.

Its a disaster and tbh there should be a enquiry into how we have bottled a whole off season losing our best and most important through the off season in the last fortnight leading into round 1.

I watched the post match interview, he already looks like a man bereft of ideas, very concerning, I dare say he probably regrets without ever admitting, punting RCG and Gutherson, that one is on him, too hard too fast, and then basically purchasing no one, other than Williams and possibly addo car, not good enough

Moving on Gutho was fine if Moses was fit.

Once Moses went down though the decision to move Gutho on is now looking horrendous we have no leaders out there without a voice.

Volkman was trying but he is a kid working his way back into an NRL system after 12 months out

Dylan Brown was Dylan Brown today in his own world.

Ran the ball looked okay on the odd occasion but wasn't there stepping up telling people where to go what to do dragging the team on his own back across the line.
