What are you talking about learnt their lesson.

Probably had more online activity and sold more rags than ever in that 3-4 week period at the start.

I'm talking the fans.

People should learn not to believe everything they read in the papers.

The media was hopeless in their soothsaying during that period, it is no different now.

you could argue these events are more meaningful than what happened at Cronulla

yet lesser was made of it until players were actually charged

That may be the case, but it won't be in the form that the SMH or news ltd speculate.

I have more of a problem with social media and the fools naming whoever they like without any accountability, the rumors just get a life of their own, whether they are true or not. We also live in a world atm that actually reports on social media as if it is news.

Because someone was leaking what was happening at Cronulla (and Essendon) to the press constantly, with my guess being someone in the Federal Government. In this case the media are really getting not much so it is hard for them to constantly write new stories

They do a great job of writing old stories though.

Bookies aren't working on anything other than rumour-mongering and the suspension of betting only acts to further fuel the rumours.

Matt Jenkins of TAB Sport said it would be irresponsible to punters to allow bets to be placed on the game until more information is known.

"As this story develops we have decided to suspend betting until more news happens," Jenkins told AAP.

"We don't know how big this is going to be so it's protecting the punters more than anything." - AAP Reports

Kinda wondering why the title of this thread only includes Jason Smith when there have been current players charged as well?

The Smith thing happened first and then all the other threads about Hunt got merged into this one as it is related. Title seems outdated now though.
