Giving someone a chance to redeem themselves because they made a mistake is fair, but f**k me giving them 2 extra chances just goes to show how ridiculous it is

AFL is really four strikes because if players self report because they think they'll test positive then it doesn't count as a strike

they're only allowed to do that once

Chris Garry said (via twitter):

This is it for sportsman from the QCCC. The Crime Commission states they do not expect to charge any more professional athletes.

Let the defamation suits commence!

Awwwwwww, how disappointing.

Can't believe that after 6 months of surveillance the only people that bought cocaine of this guy were league players. They must surely have the same info on a lot of Joe Sixpacks.

Have they just gone for the high profile arrests for publicity?!

BTW I am not in anyway condoning what these players have done.

Are we sure it's a NZ player and that Michaels wasn't the second person?

The original word I saw was 1 more Titan and a player from overseas which everyone immediately assumed was NZ.

For what it's worth Steve Price gave the Mole a bit of a serve over the whole thing.

The following is from the ABC News website -

Former Gold Coast Titans player Ashley Harrison charged in drug scandal to add to NRL club's woes

Updated 9 minutes ago

Former Gold Coast Titans NRL player Ashley Harrison has been charged as part of an investigation into a south-east Queensland cocaine trafficking syndicate.

The 33-year-old has been issued with a Notice to Appear in court next month.

The Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) has also obtained an arrest warrant for a 28-year-old man who is currently overseas.

It will be alleged Harrison and the 28-year-old man contacted the syndicate to get cocaine for personal use or to on-supply to friends and colleagues between June 2014 and November 2014.

The 28-year-old will be arrested when he returns from overseas on 10 counts of dangerous supply of a drug.

Five current Titans players, an ex-player and Super Rugby recruit Karmichael Hunt have already been charged.

The NRL club stood down Titans players Beau Falloon, Jamie Dowling, Greg Bird, Dave Taylor and Kalifa Faifai Loa after they were charged.

The Commission says it does not expect to make any further arrests of current or former athletes during its investigation.

The text of the media release from the Qld Crime and Corruption Commission website -

Two men to face drug charges — 27.02.2015

The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) has this evening issued one person with a Notice to Appear in Court and earlier today obtained a warrant for the arrest of another person who is currently overseas.

These arrests are related to the CCC’s ongoing investigation that is focused on a cocaine trafficking syndicate operating in South East Queensland.

The CCC will allege these two individuals were identified contacting the syndicate and allegedly arranging for the supply of cocaine for personal use or to on-supply cocaine to friends and colleagues between June 2014 and November 2014.

A 33-year-old man from Palm Beach was served with a Notice to Appear in Court to face two counts of Supply Dangerous Drug contrary to section 6 of the Drugs Misuse Act 1986. He is expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on 9 March 2015.

The CCC has also today obtained an arrest warrant for a 28-year-old man who is currently overseas. It is expected this warrant will be executed on the 28-year-old man upon his return to Australia. This is a standard law enforcement practice.

The arrest warrant relates to ten counts of Supply Dangerous Drug contrary to section 6 of the Drugs Misuse Act 1986.

The CCC has previously stated (see previous media releases) the focus of this investigation is a cocaine trafficking syndicate operating in South East Queensland. The CCC’s investigation is not focused on any potential broader drug use in sport.

The CCC understands a number of organisations and individuals have been the subject of speculation that they are possible targets of this ongoing CCC investigation.

The CCC has decided it is in the public interest to confirm that based on evidence currently available to the CCC, it does not expect to make any further arrests of current or former sportspeople as a result of its ongoing investigation into the cocaine trafficking syndicate.

However, consistent with all law enforcement investigations, if new information comes to hand in relation to the syndicate under investigation the CCC may consider further arrests.

The CCC will provide no further comment on this ongoing investigation while related matters are before the court. The CCC will not confirm or deny the names of the individuals.
