Sydney Roosters are on the verge of signing NSW Origin centre Michael Jennings from Penrith effective immediately.

The Sunday Telegraph can reveal Panthers general manager Phil Gould's ongoing feud with Jennings has all but delivered the Blues strike weapon to rookie coach Trent Robinson at the Roosters' Allianz Stadium headquarters.
The coup for the Roosters would deliver the club its biggest Penrith junior since Brad Fittler defected to join then Tricolours coach Gould at Bondi Junction in 1996.
It also continues the big-name player exodus from Penrith under Gould and coach Ivan Cleary's tenure, following former captain Luke Lewis and Michael Gordon's defection to Cronulla last season.
The Roosters and Penrith are negotiating the terms of Jennings being granted a release from his $600,000 contract and a deal could possibly be finalised by as early as this week.
The story caught fire on social media on Saturday after Panthers supremo Gould cryptically tweeted at 9.08pm last Friday: "Very difficult for any struggling team to rise out of the cellar when key players perform poorly and won't accept responsibility for results."

Jennings's signature would deliver the Roosters one of the NRL's most potent attacking backlines, joining Mitchell Pearce, James Maloney, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Anthony Minichiello and young guns Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Tautau Moga.

A deal had all but been done for Jennings to join St George Illawarra at the end of last season only for his manager Isaac Moses to intervene and stipulate he did not want his client playing at the Dragons.
Jennings is Penrith's highest-paid player, who was signed to a ridiculous back-ended five-year contract under the Panthers' previous administration and has long been regarded as a problem child in Sydney's greater west.
His feud with Gould stretches back to this time last season, when the Panthers supremo called him into the club's Mulgoa Rd headquarters and delivered a spray over his attitude.
The result was Jennings started the season in scintillating form before breaking club rules on Anzac Day at Panthers Leagues club, leading coach Ivan Cleary to drop him to the NSW Cup outfit, Windsor Wolves.
NSW Origin coach Ricky Stuart then showed tremendous faith in Jennings, making him the first Blues player in 30 years to be chosen from reserve grade.
Jennings rewarded Stuart with five-star performances on the game's biggest stage as Penrith floundered at the foot of the NRL table.

Well we will see if Gus and Cleary are right. Jennings with a rookie coach -if he continues his renegade ways at a club based near Kings Cross, Gus will be vindicated. However, if Jennings finds top level consistency, Gus will look like the biggest gronk since the Dogs punted Thurston.

Watch the Chooks fans blow their load over Jennings running off SBW. Especially if it happens!

Would be a great signing under a coach capable of making him consistenty play to his abilities.

I've blown several loads already at the thought of him running off $BW..

I've been having protein shakes every 15 minutes to try and replenish..

I'll be in trouble when it's finally confirmed..

But it'll be fun..

I called it days ago. This is happening.

SBW+Jennings. Roosters are setting the scene for a massive 2013 one way or another. Either they'll be world beaters or they'll implode.

I could see SBW doing a shoulder a month in and Jennings rocking up drunk again and in an instant them having 1.5 mill on the sideline. OR SBW will be the player he was and with a recharged Jennings off his shoulder they could be special.

Will be an interesting storyline to follow.

A Souths v Easts GF sure would be fantastic.

Oh look at that, Goulds arrogance is pushing more star players away. Looks like you can't be a player at his club unless you lick his arse.

But the facts would have ruined a good story.

At 1:12 pm yesterday, Ballbag posts this info in here.
At 10:30 pm last night, Ox posts this info in the Penrith forum.

Your 'scoop' happens after everyone else has already read this info....at least twice.

Are you fkn stupid or what? Are you that slow?

Please do not post again....ever :sarcasm:

Also:

The reporting of the Jennings rumour is embarrassing from James Hooper.

- The original source was Paul Langmack on Twitter.
- Hooper cited a tweet from Gould on Friday night:

https://twitter.com/gusgould91/status/287139259268345856
- The tweet was obviously about the Sydney Thunder's performance and Gayle's lack of accountability for their failure... the responses to the tweet clearly show that. Instead Hooper goes down the path that he's "cryptically tweeted"...
- He was then asked if Jennings had signed elsewhere for 2013, replying "not that I know of".

On Jennings, whilst I am aware the club has been talking to him, this could change at any time. He has already come close to signing for 3 other clubs so until a contract is signed he is not over the line for the Roosters. Remember Bennett?

Will be upset if he goes as he is a great player, but if he isn't happy it is probably for the best.

However, I will be shattered if Robert follows Michael to the Chooks.

A change of clubs might help Jennings produce this much talked about talent he apparently has. Could be the best thing for him.

Gould has little choice with this one - you can't pay a centre 700k a year for doing pretty much nothing. He should be scoring 20+ tries every season.

he's a lazy player, unless he wants to get involved he's a waste if he cost $1 on your salary cap. hanging around with frank pritchard too long

a move might help him get his shit together at least for a little while

are the roosters still using the same salary cap as everyone else?

No, just the same as the Bulldogs.

Is not worth half of what he is on.

If Penrith are serious about long term growth it may not be such a bad thing to get him off the books and use that money to secure other players. His brother would be wise to stay put as it gets him out of Michaels shadow and Cleary is pretty good at blooding younger guys
