Jennings must be loving this circus, all these clubs still willing to pay overs for him.

He'll go to the club most likely to put up with his drinking.

How can Sharks keep buying players?
Imaginary cap?

I'll bite.

The Sharks only spent 80% of their cap allowance in 2012. 8 players have moved on. 7 players have been signed. 9 players were resigned (5 of who haven't played NRL yet). There are 20 players off contract at the end of 2013.

I'd say they are still under the cap. They will be getting the same cap rise as everyone else and have the same right to backend contracts.

The Sharks are in the game now.

He won't go to the Sharks. They won't offer him Gallen money.

They don't have to newman. He already has a contract. How much of that would they be prepared to take over? How much will the Panthers pay, if any.

Is he being punted or asking for a release?

I think he's being punted myself. I don't think either he or Titan Sports will be stupid enough to ask for a release because then wherever he goes will have to honour the whole contract. I reckon that's why he is still there holding out.

Is he worth as much as Gallen as a footy player? Hell no, not in a gadzillion years but if you can get him at a firesale price due to the Panthers having to kick the can as well then why not?

what kind of dickhead administration would take on that kind of contract?

i cant see how penrith find a suitor that makes a deal worth doing for a release, they'll be on the hook for a truck load of $$ regardless so they might aswell keep him

could it possibly be a case of creating false interest by his manager… ?

As far as secret negotiations go, Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan believes the Sharks' bid to snare out-of-favour NRL centre Michael Jennings from Penrith is up there with the best of them. "They're that secret I don't even know anything about them," Flanagan told AAP on Monday. Jennings is being shopped around by the Panthers whose desperation to free up salary cap space is being hamstrung by the NSW Origin star's reported $650,000 contract.

The Sydney Roosters remain favourites to jag the talented 24-year-old, with the Panthers expected to pick up the tab for part of his current contract in order to get him off their books. But even with Penrith subsidising the rich deal, Flanagan says the Sharks are in no position to accommodate Jennings after splashing out for two of his high-profile teammates, Luke Lewis and Michael Gordon, as well as Wests Tigers pair Beau Ryan and Chris Heighington in the off-season.

While most clubs would be delighted to land a player of Jennings' calibre this late in pre-season, his price tag puts him out of play for much of the NRL. "We haven't spoken to his manager or him or anyone else for that matter," Flanagan added.
"We just haven't got the money. Not too many people have got it. "I'd love to have him, don't get me wrong. But it hasn't been spoken about."

As it stands, centre remains a headache for Flanagan with up to six players trying to fill the left centre spot to partner Ben Pomeroy, who will play on the right. New recruits Jonathan Wright and Ryan are both capable of playing wing or centre, while Ricky Leutele, Stewart Mills and Matthew Wright will all push to fill the No.3 jersey left vacant by Colin Best's retirement - starting with their first trial match, against Manly on February 8. "I'd like to think if Pom's fit and healthy he'll get one spot and who wants the other one is a real battle as well," Flanagan said.

"Centre remains a headache for Flanagan", understatement of the year if Ben Pomeroy is guarantee one of the centre spots.

One of the glaring weaknesses in a team that I think will be still going strong late in September.

Unfortunately I agree with you. Pom just doesn't have the consistency. Leutele looks promising but needs so much more work.

Or could it be just the standard denial?

Beau Ryan - http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-09-17/sharks-deal-for-ryan-denied/4266510

Todd Carney - http://www.canberratimes.com.au/sport/sharks-deny-play-for-carney-20110913-1wop8.html

Bit of a pattern has emerged at Cronulla with the denials.

It's gonna be great watching Jennings run out with his good mates Luke Lewis and Michael Gordon this year.
