Jennings to Tigers?

NSW Origin centre Michael Jennings is still firmly in the mix at Wests Tigers, ensuring a nervous summer for Blake Ayshford.

Despite Tigers officials believing Ayshford is about to revive the form that had him tipped as a Kangaroos bolter two years ago, there is no ironclad guarantee he will be there next year despite having a three-year contract.
The Jennings domino could have an impact on five clubs, with Parramatta, the Tigers, Warriors and St George Illawarra all interested in him.
His former coach Matt Elliott has a high opinion of Jennings and would love to take him to the Warriors, while the Panthers centre was one of Ricky Stuart's best in Origin last season.

Jennings' future at Penrith is uncertain thanks to a $650,000-per-season contract. Should the Tigers land him, Ayshford would be the likely casualty ahead of fellow centre Chris Lawrence.

Tigers recruitment manager Warren McDonnell yesterday threw support behind 24-year-old Ayshford, who only last year extended his contract until the end of 2015.
"The only people talking about Blake leaving are in the media," McDonnell said. "No one here has said anything about him going.
"He's contracted for another three years and we expect him to be here. Obviously you can never say what's going to happen in the future, but we expect Blake to be playing for Wests Tigers in 2013."
The news on Ayshford comes as Tigers officials prepare to rubber stamp Mick Potter as coach.
Potter is expected to be on around $250,000 a year. One of his first jobs will be to revive the form of players such as Ayshford.
Bursting into the NRL with a try on debut against Brisbane in 2009, the centre was almost thrown into the Australian squad two years later. However, this season he struggled as the Tigers failed to make the finals.
"No, Blake didn't have a great year, but he wasn't alone," McDonnell said. "The fact is he's a great first-grade centre with size, speed and a great footy brain."
While Panthers general manager Phil Gould has said Jennings will be with his club next year, it's no secret that they need to cut at least one player from their version of the big four: Jennings, Tim Grant, Lachlan Coote and Sam McKendry.

I would love to see Jennings here, he looks good outside some pretty ordinary halves at Penrith, imagine what he'd do running off Benji. However it won't happen until our coaching mess is solved, I don't see any player wanting to move clubs when they don't know who the coach will be at their new club.

"If Miller is the half I've got no problem forking out for Jennings and getting rid of Ayshford. I'd even go Jennings for Lawrence."

I agree with Shanghai Charlie, Lawrence had a pretty poor year too. With other clubs chasing Jennings I don't know if the Tigers would be his first choice at the moment.

The team was so flat this year we need as many new faces as possible.

An announcement of Signing Jennings would see club membership spark.

Wouldn't mind seeing Jennings in Tigers colours but I think everyone singling out Ashyford for one bad season is ridiculous. Are you all forgetting how awesome he was for us the the past 3 seasons, and how about the other underperforming players? Moltzen, Lawrence, Marshall, Blair, Galloway etc.

All he needs is a good kick up the ass in the off season and he'll be fine.

Still has a massive future in my mind if he puts the effort in and IMO will be done under a new coach.

Rather see all our current players under a new coach rather than knee jerk sackings and over priced recruiting
Most our players were poor last year, its no coincidence.
Hopefully Potter can instill some fresh legs

Exactly.
Why the hell are we recruiting and sacking without a head coach in place?

I thought the coach decided this.

Not making excuses but Ayshford also had a baby come into his life this year, a baby who gave neither he or his partner many restfull nights through sickness etc so all of that can contribute

Should have kept his dick in his pants because he was poor. Career threatening poor.

We only need one new face, and that is a decent coach who keeps players in their correct positions.
Apart from that, an extra prop.

I think all we need is a new coach however any class player wouldn't hurt. I just worry that Jennings could end up a negative influence.

McDonnells take on Ayshford being a great centre,FM he has no idea of centre play...this has to be an attempt to entice other clubs to off load his services from us.

If you have 9 halves combinations in a year, you CAN NOT expect your centres to play well.

I'd hang onto Ayshford and Lawrence and give them a full year with a stable halves combo in place.

You will see them back at their devastating best in no time.

will not happen

tigers only want to pay 200k of his contract leaving penrth to foot the other 400k.Penrith want a starting price of 400k before they will release him

Depends how much we could get him for really. $600K for a centre is ridiculous. Though I do have question marks over his attitude, do we really need any more passengers?

When fit and in form, though, he's a class player.
