Central Coastie, I'd be very very careful if I was you, don't be negligent in your duty of checking the facts!

Peter Peters words:

"The Manly Sea Eagles has come in for a barrage of unwarranted criticism over the cost of a signed jersey for 11 year old James Booth from the Central Coast.
A letter from the Wyoming Rugby League
Club was sent to the Sea Eagles with a request for a donated signed jersey.
It was one of 40 requests received weekly.
Some of the cases are as bad or worse than young James and the club has great sympathy and understanding for every request received.
There was a column by an by an unknown (to us)journalist in a Central Coast publication suggested the "SILVERTAILS MANLY THUMB NOSE AT CENTRAL COAST AGAIN".That was nothing more than a cheap shot at the Manly Football Club by a journalist who was negligent in his duty of checking the facts.Had the author of the column checked with the club he would have found out that there never was a mention of a demand for $165 for a signed jersey.
A letter of reply was sent out from the club outlining the club had a policy of assisting charities and similar cases in its own district.
However,an offer of purchase for $135 was made...way down on the price of $225 normally charged for an autographed jersey. And less than the ficticious $165
price mentioned.
(Some clubs in the NRL charge $400 for a signed jersey).
If the Manly Sea Eagles gave jerseys for every sick kid in NSW and Queensland we would be out of business.
It is a shame that the illness of a sick boy was used to slander a football club which goes out of its way to support community services.
For every sad story like the one surrounding James Booth there is another one of assistance which goes un-noticed.
Supporters can be certain that every effort is made to answer all requests and help where possible but again I highlight that we concentrate on our own area.
We don't seek publicity about our assistance to local charities - it is part of our charter to be better citizens.
As for Manly owing the Central Coast a truck load of cash from our time on the Coast
our answer is this - we owe nothing and we never had any time on the Coast.....THAT WAS A NIGHTMARE! - Admin"

My understanding is that other NRL clubs donated jerseys despite the fact that the boy is a Manly fan (and so they should) - this puts Peters comments into perspective and it does not look good. Trying to "sugar-coat" the issue only makes Peters look even more ignorant and uncaring.

Basically, those comments have excacerbated an already embarrassing situation and anybody that supports those "excuses" should be ashamed of themselves. Due to the sensitivity of the issue, I normally would not comment, but those "excuses" from Peters are ludicrous in the extreme, and to then, in the same breath, refer to a petty argument about owing this and that, well that shows a total lack of compassion.

I'm sure if the boy were your son, you would find cold comfort in Peters words - the whole incident is a disgrace, and to try and justify it beggars believe.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

OH, Did I miss something important?

If your lacking any sort of compassion and have the intellectual capacity of an amoeba, then the answer is no.

Rastus. this isn't about the request for the signed jersy, but the fact that some dipsh*t who claims to be a journalist has used this to deliberately slander the Sea Eagles

The article itself was the typical crap you'd read in any central coast newspaper, where CC people are always the poor victims (oh my bleeding heart) and the Sydneysiders are always the bad guys.

As for your claim that I have the intellectuaql capacity of an amoeba, I'll just assume that you're a genius and won't be able to understand this.

Have a good day :D

Your right, I don't understand "intellectuaql" - my sincere apologies to the amoeba species - I have seriously overestimated your intellectual capacity.

For your own sake please leave this thread alone as you are only perpetuating the embarrassing situation - the kid was a Manly supporter ffs.

You're all missing the point as this gets ridiculously heated.

There's a sick kid who wants a signed Eagles jumper - he's not the least bit caring of the politics I daresay.

Here's a proposal.

Zorba says $225 right.

I'll put in $25 dollars to start if 10 Manly fans put in $20 each we'll have $225 and enough to get this kid his jumper.

Who's in?

Frenzy, we're not missing the point as this has already been done and the kid has his jumper but good idea anyway.......it's the usual Manly bashing by the gooses you see posting in this thread looking for any cheap shot they can have at our club, not just this thread!

It has already been done Frenzy.Alot of us sent off donations and one eagle rocker "robstarr" gave up his own signed Manly jersey(a very good effort).I would offer my Northern Eagles jersey but it would lose them dollars instead of making them.

Missing the point?

The point is:
1. A sick child requested a Manly jersey for fundraising:
2. He was told categorically "pay for it".

Once this selfish, despicable act was publicised, the Manly propaganda machine goes into overdrive and all you hear are pathetic excuses. So do all their fans.

What happened to your oce powerful club? It's a disgrace.

Go on back to the bears section little man.........Oh that's right there isn't one cause you have no team   :-({|=
We have seen pathetic propaganda in your latest newsletter that is posted in the NRL section.......I thought the letter was a setup as even the NSDRLFC couldn't be that stupid/bias but I have been assured it is legit........Keep watching the premies and you better learn to enjoy them because come 2005 there will be a GoldCoast side and Scumpower will still be empty.

Yeah I see that chile. As an impartial it's pretty lame talk in here and I'm glad the kid got his jersey.

THAT is all that mattered to me.

PS Maybe odd from a Sharks fan but I had the great pleasure of meeting Zorba earlier this year. He's not a hard arse like many make him out to be in fact I found him warm and receptive and the perfect voice for not only Manly but for RL.

PPS Good on robstarr!

Sometimes this interclub bullshit goes way too far IMO :(

 Coming from a fan of a club that is dead and even if it wasn't....would probably say after their club knocked back the kid that the fans didn't have enough money to help out either as they were to busy using the money to bring down another club....clutching at straws as usual and even worse...the Manly fans came to the party to helpout the kid where as how embarrassing is it that you use this kids very sad situation to put forward your dribble as usual and put another club down at a sick childs expense  you are getting worse DD and how about you think about the kid you have just used as another shallow foundation for your argument...the kid is dying and you revel in bringing Manly down with his life!

Chile

tell me which part is untrue.

A sick child, Manly fan, requests a Manly jumper from the club for fundraising and is told to pay for it!

No spin. just a disgrace.

Doctor Feelgood, I'm not going to continue this argument with you at the expense of a sick child....you have everything in black and white including the kindness of Manly fans who go the kid a jersey....I wont sink to your low levels just to continue your lame arguments to knock our club!
