You have to hand it to the Leigh Leopards. They’ve done some really wonderful things since their new branding came into being. I wasn’t supportive of it at the time but you have to hand to it them. Well done.

White & Red resembles either a Wigan or St Helens shirt too much for some people to buy them here. That's genuinely enough of a reason for people not to. Nobody major plays in White & Navy.
England across all sports have an identity circus. Kinda like Australia Soccer not wearing the national colours.

Last time I saw the Matilda’s running around they were wearing a pastel blue coloured jersey. Which has never been Australian National Sporting Colours.
Like most sports, all nations need an alternate jersey. Socceroos is usually a dark navy jersey, while the women's (and it seems incredibly popular) is a mint colour.

Both wear gold as their primary kit, though:

Our colours are green and gold. There is no need for alternate that’s any other colour with our colour combination.

Should have a predominantly Green jersey as the dark jersey and a predominantly Gold jersey as the lighter jersey. That would avoid all clashes, except for maybe the 1%. There is absolutely no need to be wearing mint against Germany who are wearing a predominantly white jersey.

Wearing anything other than Green and Gold is an insult imo.

Seems like a merchandising choice - and based on sales (i.e. its never available because it sells out on every release), it's successful.

Apparently it drew inspiration from "Australia's vivid sea, with the rich trio of colours representing the country's natural wonders".

Thanks for the information.

Sounds like marketing talk to me more than anything else though.

It's nothing to do with marketing. It's a necessity in soccer, and standard practice in most sports, to have at least two kits that contrast to avoid colour clashes.

There're multiple other nations with green and gold/yellow as their colours, and a bunch more that are near enough to clash, that could play each other at any time. If they all only had gold primary and green alts, or vice versa, then there would regularly be multiple egregious kit clashes in major tournaments.

Besides, if anybody in soccer was ever given the right to call dibs on gold and green it'd be Brazil, not the Socceroos.
