Question, did GC Chargers ever have a away kit?
These were the days when very few teams had more than one jersey and the world kept turning. I recall Western Suburbs had their black kit and their white kit, Roosters had two, Manly had two, Warriors had two, Parra had two, Penrith had two, and likewise Illawarra and Canberra. But they were all pretty much purely in the event of a clash, not a home or away scenario as there is today (let alone all the other special jerseys per year). I recall Adelaide, in their one season in the NRL had a plain yellow jersey for the last round where they played Newcastle in Newcastle.

Honestly, there's more names there than I expected when I started typing it, but it just seemed like a rare thing, looking back at it from the distance of nearly 30 years.

Roosters, Parra, Auckland, and Wests I seem to recall used their alternate jerseys a bit more commonly than everyone else, but I might be wrong there.

* Edit * I also, now, recall Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Western Reds, and South Queensland also having a 2nd kit too.

So, coming at it from the other angle, it appears that back in those days, the only teams that DIDN'T have a 2nd (clash) jersey were Newcastle, Chargers, St.George, Norths, Balmain, Canterbury, North Queensland, Cronulla, and Souths.

Question, I just remembered a couple of years ago that (i could be wrong) but isn't the Rooster due to change their logo in 2026.. It looks a little out dated now and needs a revamp.

how stingy is whoever owns the Chandler IP to not allow a logo on the front lol
i wouldn't put it past this mob just f**king it up like they constantly do, but yes the 97 should have chandlers, otherwise you could say this is a 96 with the wrong badge....

could any jersey nerds confirm this would be pretty spon on if we just got a Chandlers logo heat pressed on?

Looks like it. Just be missing the Canterbury logo naturally.

Edit:
I understand 97 was there best season but I would have preferred the 98 with NRL logo and Home Hardware sponsor if they were able to swing it.

the retro also has the 96 chargers logo (big white box)
Ah yes. Well out of luck really, I guess. Maybe they do these things so people don't try to flog them off as authentic for the jerseys that are in higher demand like the chargers. Just spitballin'. No idea if that would be an actual thing they would do.

I've heard that your theory is actually bang on. Years ago, authentic replicas of old jerseys (not sure if here or overseas somewhere) were purchased, roughed up, dirtied up, and sold off to vulnerable / desperate fans as being so-and-so's actual playing jumper and made that dodgy person a lot more money than they paid for the jumper in the first place.

So, to counter that, they make replicas these days intentionally incorrect. Little details, but obvious if you know what you're looking at.

The name kinda sounds like a tv show that follows around first-time Origin players. But I would have thought a tv mob would be responsible for the show, not so much the NRL, so I don't know.
