Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor

As the title says. Discuss.

My personal opinion is that he will be similar to Michael Shannon as Zod in the sense that Shannon's Zod was pretty much a completely distinct take on the character than Stamp's was. Though where Shannon actually looked the part, Eisenberg doesn't.

This is the movie of strange casting choices (Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman) but it is certainly going to be a massive movie. You've already got Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Lawrence Fishburne and IIRC minor appearances from Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe in flashback roles to add to all the other characters i.e. Martha Kent and the two familiars at the Daily Planet.

Throw in Ben Affleck as Batman, Jeremy Irons as Alfred (inspired choice by the way IMO), Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and you have yourself a movie that is going to struggle big time to give every character their due. Seriously, how do you go from Man of Steel - just Superman - to adding in Batman and Wonder Woman for a sequel, plus other attached characters and a new villain?

I can see this being a great movie, but jeez, the potential is really there for it to flop big time.

It's going to flop. It is going down the same route as man of steel. The attraction will be the visual porn. Being the fight scenes, explosions and other CGI.

I hate it already. There was no need to bring Batman into it. They should have just done 3 Man of Steel movies, and then gone into Batman v Superman (and paid the Dark Knight trilogy actors a mint if need be). Following that, go into Justice League.

Wonder Woman and The Flash should really have got their own movies too. With Green Lantern getting a reboot. (would be cool to see the Green Arrow in it as well. Same actor as the current series)

Definitely would've preferred a 2nd Man of Steel solo film. The 1st was his intro, we should've seen Superman in his prime next. Being the worlds hero, saving people from everyday villains and another big bad. Then ok, move onto bringing in other DC heroes.
The one thing that has given me a (false?) hope is that the writers have said this is first and foremost a sequel to Man of Steel.

Man of Steel hardly even developed the characters and they're going straight into a Justice League set-up. There's already talks about Aquaman being in this, as well as Green Lantern and Green Arrow.
Eisenberg has only ever played a smart-ass, big mouth nerd. I've always seen Luthor as a more domineering personality but whatever.
I didn't think Man of Steel was a good movie at all. Can't see this being any better. DC just rushed into this to compete with The Avengers.

Marvel actually took some time to develop their movie series into what it is today, DC have seen how damn successful it is, and are just trying to rush into that same success. It could work, but it could also just turn into one big clusterf**k. My money is on the clusterf**k.

Meh, some movies shouldn't be remade. I will not watch remakes of these comic books made into movies, because they are always shithouse to me.

Todays remakes are all about improving things visually, which they achieve, but the horrendous storylines make them worse.

As others have already postulated, to me this is DC's "hurry up so we can launch the Justice League" movie made under the guise of Superman. Rather than take a measured pace of introducing most of its characters separetely before launching the group movie (like Marvel did with Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America before The Avengers) DC is doing the reverse. To me it reeks of desperation and unless it has an incredibly good script which gives each of the characters a chance to shine it will more than likely be an underwhelming movie (See Spiderman 3 as an example of where you try to cram in too much).

A good script AND good casting make these types of movies. The first Iron Man film being a classic example. Iron Man was not viewed by Marvel at the time as one of its flagship franchises, but look at what happened when you had a good script with the right casting.

I like it. This isn't your regular old Lex Luthor - and what's wrong with that? Why do the same things all the time?
Eisenberg hasn't shown much range in his movies to date, but that could be a case of typecasting rather than not being able to branch out. I'll give him a chance to see what he can do with the role (which we don't know how it's being written just yet - he could be perfect for it for all we know).

I like Man Of Steel. Sure it had its problems, mainly to do with some story plotholes. But it was a decent enough set-up for the universe DC/WB are trying to create.
I have more hope for this movie simply because David Goyer isn't writing it. He and Snyder came up with the story and a first draft but Chris Terrio has been brought on board to write the screenplay. Sure he only has one film writing credit to his name, but that movie was Argo which was wonderful.

Also, what's wrong with DC/WB (I don't see why it's DC that keeps getting all the flak when it's actually Warner Bros that are the ones making the movies) taking a different track than Marvel did? Why can't they team up yet? I don't have much of a problem with how they are doing this.

Just remember the main thing - we don't know what the story is yet or how any of these character will fit into it!
All you blokes seem to see is a whole bunch of superheroes in one movies fighting for screen time. Wonder Woman may be in it for 2 minutes. Who knows how long Batman will be in it. So far they are the only superheroes in it.

I don't see how they are "rushing it" as some of you put it. WB have put out ONE movie that exists in this universe so far. And the next one isn't coming out until halfway through 2016. That doesn't sound like they are rushing anything. If anything, WB seem to be dragging their feet with their properties, which is probably due to the failure of Green Lantern. It doesn't seem like they have anything planned beyond Man Of Steel 2, but o course we have no idea if they actually do or not. They just don't announce everything the way Marvel does.

Obviously, it's because it's just rushed. There's plenty wrong with it, see the bad reaction to Green Lantern and the mixed reaction to Man of Steel. They aren't two movies to build a franchise on. The Dark Knight movies were however Nolan didn't want to do that, and now they have rushed a reboot of Batman into it that's also been taken negatively.
If Batman and Wonder Woman are only making cameos then DC are certainly making a big deal out of it. And if Batman is in the title there's a fair chance he's gonna be in it a fair bit. DC have pretty much admitted this is just their reaction to The Avengers. And to kick it off with Green Lantern of all films, it just hasn't been done well at all.
They don't have anything planned because they put all their heroes into this film. They didn't want to do a Batman film because we've just had 3, their Green Lantern was shit and they don't think Wonder Woman can hold a movie on her own. Now there's rumours of The Rock playing John Stewart and Khal Drogo as Aquaman, plus including Green Arrow and Flash from the TV series which seems entirely unplanned and simply convenient.
Now if they had held off a few years and done Superman - Batman - Wonder Woman - Flash as their own films interconnected then maybe it would work better.

And I'm a big DC fan. Love the comics, animated series and live action series a lot more than Marvels and did like the movies (original Superman, Dark Knight films) a lot more than Marvels until now.

Yeah, just seems like people are writing it off before they even see it.
Heaps of people thought Heath Ledger was a terrible choice for the Joker.
Was the same when Michael Keaton was cast as Batman.
Both of those turned out ok.

As Someone just said, you never know.

Of course we never know, I was just explaining the bad reaction to it is understandable after Green Lantern, Man of Steel and the rushed reboot of Batman.
