Whoever suggested Muhammad as lead guitar is an idiot - all he did was smash his guitar and blow up his amp. Jesus was the man. Who could forget his Gig on the Mount - "Blessed are the Stratocasters". He was also brilliant at hammerons. One could say he nailed it........

Seriously, Mauboy is an excellent choice. She has proved herself world class in The Sapphires. Her tits are nicer than Tom Kenealley's too.

I hope she sings "Kick Start My Heart", but wouldnt be surprised if she sang something from the movie - she did a great version of "What A Man"

Jesus might have too much of a bad boy image.

Always hanging out with hookers and changing water into wine when the party ran dry

Sadly, if 'Simply The Best' is the choice of song then it just opens the NRL up for criticism.

I'm not saying it is a bad approach necessarily, but News ltd. are looking for any opportunity to nail the Commission. They'll pin it as a "step backwards" and being "out of ideas" no doubt about it.

At any rate the marketing of the game should be a multi-faceted approach in order to cater for all demographics and tastes. Relying on one 'face' or campaign is foolhardy to me.

I think if she sings 'Simply the Best' acomplishes 2 things:

1. Gives all the bogans nostalgia about the "good ol'days".
2. Gives the game a great look from the perspective of new fans/demographics eyes.

A young talented indigenous female who loves rugby league and is the face of the game provides marketing few others can offer.

Keith Moon loved him.

However, I think the Jesus slander has gone too far. Its simply blasphemous to suggest that He ever hung around with Cameron Smith and Michael Ennis!

If anything, the bogans of today like Pop music like the watered down auto tune brand that Jessica Mauboy sings.

Anyways, shes terrible, but if it works then whatever.

It's a myth perpetuated by the indie rock hipster bulls*** scene that's gained prominence lately. All of a sudden if you like the Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden and Metallica you're classed as a bogan by some of these cardigan wearing, Arcade Fire-loving pretentious wankers. F*** em.

On Mauboy I've got no problems with the ARLCs choice. If she can bring in new fans to the game and her choice of song doesn't sound like fingernails on a chalkboard then it's all good. At least I won't cringe at the grounds anymore when that washed up hack Bon Jovi comes on the loudspeaker.

FFS Ive been banging on about this for years and ages on this forum. Its gotta be Simply the Best, every ferkin year , with different bands / singers.

Make it happen NRL. Watch Mum and Dad stop looking at the ABC or SBS and give us something that says " We are back " and make the parents excited. Excited parents and impressionable under 10`s are the key.

Dont care what the rest of you say. I am right

When you're finished with that tall poppy scythe, can I borrow it? So you haven't heard/seen her sing, but you're happy to suggest she is talentless. I'm curious, based on what then?
Look, I'm not her biggest fan, I'm a Led Zep man myself. However the girl does have a voice and can actually sing.

Australian, young, female, indigenous, talented, actually supports the game.
I just can't see the upside. Anyone?

Where did I say she was talentless? Didn't say I hadn't heard her sing - hell, was I supposed to memorise her name from that atrocious GF appearance, was I? I did question whether someone who gained fame through a karaoke show is the best talent we could have called upon. But as you pointed out - it's not about talent. It's about ticking boxes.

Still, I'll guestimate I'd rather ads with her in them than the SBW-OMG ad Nein are using.
